SAFETY PADDLERS NEEDED!!
Sunday, Sept 15th
7am-11am
Gibson Island
SWIM ACROSS AMERICA is looking for additional Safety Paddlers for the 15th annual SWIM to raise funds for the Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center at John’s Hopkins Medicine.
Safety Paddlers are stationed along the 1-mile Swim course to act as eyes, ears (and assistance if necessary) for all swimmers. We help to make sure that all 300 swimmers are following the correct route (buoy to buoy), to assist them if they need a brief rest or hydration and to alert our professional rescue teams in the event of a swimmer emergency. Safety Paddlers must be competent in managing their own position along the course and capable of providing basic assistance and communication to swimmers in distress until appropriate rescue teams arrive on scene (typically no longer than 60 seconds). This volunteer position is appropriate for intermediate to advanced paddlers (SUP or Kayak) who are very confident in their on-water skills.
Breakfast and event t-shirts are provided for all Safety Paddlers.
Safety Paddlers must provide their own equipment (SUP or Kayak, paddle, PFD)
A great cause and a truly rewarding experience!
