Friends and fellow bike riders:

Bike Walk Joplin is inviting you to join us for a special night time bike ride this Friday, August 28, following our regular Critical Mass Group Bike Ride! 🌜

As always, the regular slow rollout is at 6:15pm from 4th and Joplin Avenue. We will end at Chaos brewing as usual for social time and refreshments.

THEN, for those who dare, join us again at 9PM for a night time bike ride under August’s full moon 🌕🚴🏽‍♀️🚴🏼‍♂️

Both rides are no-drop and will be about 5 miles thru town. As always: helmets and bike lights are encouraged (especially for the night ride!)

However, if you do not have access to bike lights we will lend you a light for this event ✨

SUBJECT: Transportation organization seeking citizens' input about future Bicycle & Pedestrian projects

The Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) is excited to announce the kickoff for updating the Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan including the launch of an online community survey.

JATSO is the transportation planning agency for the Joplin metropolitan area, as designated by the federal government, and its goal is to provide for regional mobility. The Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan assesses existing bike & pedestrian facilities, identifies popular destinations & needed system improvements, and prioritizes future sidewalks, trails, and bicycle infrastructure projects for the next 10 years.

Survey questions focus on bicycle/pedestrian safety perceptions, specific problem areas, and suggestions for improvement. Responses will help JATSO make informed decisions that target the most pressing transportation issues affecting the region.

In addition to the survey, the public is invited to visit JATSO’s booth in front of Joplin City Hall at the August 20th Third Thursday. JATSO’s booth will include interactive exercises with maps and graphics, and information about the project. Please stop at our booth and provide your insights for increasing opportunities for walking and biking in the JATSO area.

JATSO values community input; it is the only way to create a plan that represents the needs of the entire regional community.

JATSO is the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Joplin region. Federal legislation requires an MPO for any urbanized area with a population of over 50,000. MPOs ensure that existing and future transportation projects and program expenditures are based on a continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive planning process.

🚲The team at Bike Walk Joplin would like to invite the community to participate in our regular monthly Critical Mass group bike ride on July 31, which will double as a school supply drive!

The school supplies we gather will be passed on to our partners at Bright Futures, who will ensure they end up with the right students!

Hello Joplin!

Our May 2026 Critical Mass Group Bike Ride is scheduled to take place as usual on the final Friday of the month (May 29), but our organization wanted to kick it up a notch by converting it into a special community service ride!

We are asking our regular riders, and the community in general, to donate non-perishable food items and/or personal hygiene items for this event.

Our amazing board members and ride leaders will load up the goods and carry them along a special route designed to swing by our community's Blessing Boxes. We will restock these community pantries as needed with the items you donate.

When: Friday, May 29, 2026
Time: Donation drop off: 5:30PM-6:00PM. We depart at 6:15pm.
Location: 4th Street and Joplin Avenue: Southwest Parking lot (by the Larry Jones ghost bike memorial).

Even if you are not joining the bike ride, please consider helping us give back to our amazing community!

Join Bike Walk Joplin in celebrating National Bike Month by swapping your car for a bike starting May 11th-17th, and for BIKE TO WORK DAY on May 15th 🚲🗄️📁

40% of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a fun way to get around.

We encourage you to wear a helmet, check your local ordinances for cyclists on the road, and have fun using this alternative form of transportation!

💙🚲WoW🚲💙 What an amazing day at the MOmentum Bike Park Grand Launch Party!!! We partnered with The Alliance of SWMO to make sure all the kiddos ride safely with properly fitting helmets. Basic Bike Cycling Co was also on hand to help people learn how to fix those basic bike issues. Our hearts are full watching the community come together around a love for bikes. Thank you Joplin Parks and Recreation for all the hard work that went into making this event a spectacular success!
