Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) among adults in the United States is estimated to affect approximately 1 in 45 individuals, which translates to about 2.21% of the adult population. The male-to-female ratio for autism diagnoses has traditionally been reported at around 3:1, indicating that three males are diagnosed for every female diagnosed. Nevertheless, recent research suggests this ratio may be evolving to 2.5:1 as diagnostic approaches and understanding improve. Key statistics include: an estimated ASD prevalence of 1 in 45 adults, a 2.21% prevalence rate among adults, a male-to-female ratio of approximately 3:1, and an alternative ratio of approximately 2.5:1. These findings underscore the necessity for continued awareness and support for adults with autism.

Some children are constantly told to “listen properly” - but they are already trying as hard as they can.

Imagine hearing every word, but your brain cannot quite make sense of them. Instructions blur together. Background noise feels overwhelming. By the time you work out what was said, everyone else has already moved on.

This is what life can feel like for a child with Auditory Processing Disorder.

They may look distracted, forgetful, or oppositional. In reality, they are confused, overloaded, and often blamed for something they cannot control.

Over time, this can affect confidence, behaviour, learning, and relationships.

When adults understand what is really happening, everything changes. Small adjustments in how we speak, teach, and support can make a huge difference.
