Today was my brother's birthday. Two days before he was killed in a car crash in 1969. Still miss him after all these years; just as I know all of you miss your loved ones that have passed on. Born December 29, 1951.

Just got a message from the great Patrick Black of Class of 1970 which said "Terry, We are dedicating The Cooksey Johns Memorial Friday Evening at Homecoming. We would like for you to join us if this it a possibility for you. Let me know Bud.....Hope all is well..."

Making progress with JHS. I just made Principal Leigh Anne Rainey an Administrator for this page so JHS could take it over, since Cooksey-Johns Stadium is a major part of JHS.....I will be sending the letter jacket, All-State certificate and picture the 2nd week of January; after giving FedEx and UPS the first week to handle that 40 million packages of Xmas gift returns...If you know Leigh Anne, please tell her. She was expecting the items the first week of January. I will call her at JHS after I get back from shipping the items.

JHS Principal Leigh Anne Rainey and I talked yesterday on the phone and made the necessary arrangements to get my brother's letter jacket, All-State certificate and picture to JHS....The person I left a message with, for Principal Rainey, never gave my message to her. It's losers like this that have stood in my way the past 30 years to stop me from getting people off drugs, getting people cured, getting people filled with the Holy Spirit and me preaching the Gospel of Christ at my own house!...But it only takes a few good people to get good things done. So this is why I am glad to be doing this through Leigh Anne! I am donating these items for the students of JHS; past, present and future. They need great role models to be winners...And there is no greater example of winners at JHS than the Class of 1970, of which Rickey and Danny were a part of. Too many give all the credit for that to Rickey and Danny. But it was all of the Class of 1970 that loved one another and believed if they got along and worked together, they could do great things. They proved that!..As a result of that, JHS finally played for its first State football championship. That laid the foundation for the best football team JHS has ever had, the next year. 3 out of the 4 State football championships JHS has played for were Rickey and Danny's senior year, 1969 season, 1970 season and the 1972 season..Rickey led the team in scoring without ever playing a down of offense. I scored a TD on a 60 yard punt return against West Memphis, in 4 inches of rain, to win that game. We knew how to win and got the job done. Hopefully, having my brother's memorabilia displayed at JHS will inspire future students of JHS to do great things and ignite a fire that uplifts the students of JHS for many years to come! These items should be on display at JHS sometime in January.

This page will soon be run by JHS. I contacted the Principal of JHS and told her I think my brother's letter jacket and 2x3 foot picture should be on display at Cooksey-Johns Stadium for everyone to see and enjoy. The picture was given to my mother and I by the FOX family as a gift from their studio...The letter jacket was found at a yard sale by Alan Fike and given to Coach Riggs, who gave it to me. It ended up at the yard sale because my dad's last wife did not return it to me as was promised upon Hayden's death.....Since we recently moved out of Jonesboro, I began to realize that the jacket and picture should be given to JHS for the stadium. I am also thinking about donating Rickey's All-State certificate that has hung above the picture in our house the past 45 years....During that conversation with Leigh Anne, I also told her I wanted her to take over this page. And that I would stay an Admin in order to continue to post historic photos and information about Rickey. All this should be done before the end of December, if not sooner....Thank all of you for your support and continuing to remember and honor my brother and one of his constant companions, Danny Johns. Last time I saw them both was the morning they took off for the Sugar Bowl. Just a few hours later, the State Police came in the back door of Home Federal where I was working with my mom during the holidays. Peace and Love to all of you.

Here is the letter we received from Atwood Bell informing us of the dedication ceremony for Cooksey-Johns Stadium. I have no idea who received these or how many were sent out. Just thought you might want to see this if you're a fan of JHS and Cooksey-Johns Stadium. I did some photo cleanup on this picture because it is so old and stained on the left side. It's been inside Rickey's Senior annual all these years.

An old picture we, the Cookseys, took of the dedication plaque at the entrance of Cooksey-Johns Stadium...Please contact us if you know how we can get Jonesboro High School to accept Rickey Cooksey's letter jacket to put on display at the stadium.
