🤝🏼Not all stress is the enemy. Make friends with ‘metabolic stress’.
❓What is metabolic stress?
Metabolic stress is one of the three primary drivers of muscle growth (hypertrophy). It triggers a chemical reaction that forces muscles to 1) adapt, 2) grow larger, and 3) become more efficient at producing energy.
❓What is Antagonist Training?Antagonist Training targets OPPOSING muscle groups. (Back/chest, quadriceps/hamstrings, biceps/triceps, glutes/hip flexors).
❓How does Antagonist Training create metabolic stress?
Antagonist Training increases metabolic stress by demanding continuous high-intensity work with minimal rest.
❓What are the other benefits of Antagonist Training?
☑️Increase Muscle Growth: Training opposing muscle groups creates high metabolic stress which stimulates the nervous system and prompts a greater growth hormone response than training the muscle in isolated sets.
☑️Optimize Time:
Supersets = pair opposing exercises. The first muscle group - antagonist - rests (here I’m training BACK, POSTERIOR DELTS) while the second muscle group - agonist- is resting (CHEST, ANTERIOR DELTS). Then switch.
☑️Increase Strength & Power:
Activating the antagonist muscle immediately before working the agonist muscle increases power output and enhances neuromuscular efficiency.
☑️Prevent Injury:
Strengthening the opposing muscle group ensures equal tension, prevents postural issues, and stabilizes the joint.
📢BONUS FAT BURNER:
Muscle is metabolically active therefore muscle improves insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, meaning your body is better at using the food you eat for ENERGY rather than storing it as FAT.
