From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! 🧡🧡 No one wanted this race canceled, especially us. We had no idea how many of you would show up for our cookout/party. We had no idea how it would go.

Well, it was nothing short of AMAZING. 🧡 What happened last night was a testament to just how wonderful our runners are. We are truly sorry that the 2026 Sundowner 5k cannot happen, but we are thankful for the reminder that we are surrounded by a community of amazing humans. 🧡

Unfortunately, for the first time in over 25 years, the Sundowner 5k is canceled. We have been closely monitoring the air quality, and it has steadily declined to a unhealthy range as the day has progressed. We hope that we are offering enough notice for runners to plan accordingly.

In lieu of the race, we will still be hosting a party/cookout at Inwood Athletic Club tonight from 5:30-7:30p. (All the food and drinks with none of the running!) The Inwood Athletic Club Fitness Floor will be available at no charge to any runner who still wishes to get in a run / workout tonight.

Medals and unclaimed packets will be available at the party tonight. In addition, our age group awards will be given away to the first 100 attendees at tonight’s party.

🙌 IT'S RACE DAY! 🙌 Keep reading for important race day information!

🌞WEATHER STATEMENT - We are aware of and closely monitoring the air quality in our area. At this time, the air quality does not warrant race cancelation. Please monitor our social media (Inwood Athletic Club, Joliet Park District or RUN3) and/or the race website - www.jpdrun3.com/Sundowner-5k.php - for any updates. As always, we encourage runners to make race day decisions based on their own health and fitness needs.

In light of the forecasted high temperatures and humidity, runners are strongly urged to exercise caution during the race. Please hydrate properly before the race, and slow down your pace as needed. (Save your PR for another day!)

There will be 2 water stops along the route, and both water stops and the finish line will have bags of ice for runners who might need it.
