Our 20/20 Project is back with another installment of highlighting 20 Members for 20 Years, so let's MEET VICTOR! 👋 Victor just completed his 16th season of Boot Camp, AND he's training for his 3rd marathon! 💪 Keep reading for his story 👇
“My journey at Inwood Athletic Club began during COVID, in August 2020. At the time, I found myself supporting local restaurants like it was my personal responsibility to keep them in business and while I still do, it’s not quite as often now.
My very first season of Boot Camp was unforgettable, especially that first week. I was doing things I never imagined I could do. Lifting real weights, far beyond the 12 ounce curls I had been used to. Before long, I started noticing changes. My clothes were a bit looser, my face looked less pudgy, and overall I just felt like a new person. Weight loss was never my main goal, but I knew that if I committed to working out, the pounds would come off and they certainly did. Having the added bonus of being married to a chef made meal prep easy, too.
Over several Boot Camp seasons, I dropped four pant sizes and have maintained that progress. Along the way, I discovered a love for running—something I never would have expected. I’m proud to say I’ve completed many distance races, including two full marathons, with a third coming up this fall. Running a marathon was never part of the plan, but here I am, proving myself wrong in the best way.
I would absolutely recommend Inwood Athletic Club to anyone looking to make a positive change in their life. I never feel intimidated walking in to lift weights or do cardio. Everyone is welcoming, encouraging, and genuinely wants you to succeed. The trainers have become good friends, which makes every workout even better.
My favorite class is Saturday morning HIT. I start texting friends on Friday to get them to come, though if I’m being honest, it’s really about holding myself accountable. If I say I’m going to do something, I show up. What better way to start the weekend than with friends burning some calories to an awesome playlist!
Inwood has had a positive impact on my life well beyond the gym. I’ve made lasting friendships and gained a community that enjoys life together, yes, sometimes signing up for a race, but always making sure a brunch reservation is booked first.
I’m forever grateful that I took that first step and signed up for Boot Camp in August 2020. Since that day, I’ve continued to move forward and look ahead.”
