All this years spring rain has created a bountiful harvest. A lot of Mesquite Beans and I have dried, roasted a ground them. Also a bountiful harvest of pears which we are enjoying a Roasted Pear delight for dinner. Of course, with a blend of Basil and Lemongrass Tea.

I have pulled up some of my Dandelions to dry the roots. I will make a Roasted Fig Leaf and Dandelion Root Tea. A healthy alternative for a morning beverage served hot.

There are a lot of plants called "vervain," and that's exactly where it gets interesting.

The one with all the old European history is Verbena officinalis. But the vervain growing wild across North American meadows and streambanks is a different species entirely — Verbena hastata, blue vervain, with its tall spikes of small purple flowers. Same family, genuinely different plant. If you're ever buying it, the botanical name on the label is the only way to know which one you're actually getting.

Blue vervain is what herbalists call a nervine — a plant traditionally used for the wound-up, can't-switch-off feeling. The mind that keeps running. The tension that settles into your neck and shoulders after a long day. It's been valued for helping the body ease that grip — and, notably, for doing it without heavy sedation.

That last part is why it turns up in two of our formulas instead of one. In Stillwater, it helps take the edge off the tension of a stressful day. In Nightfall, that same quality — helping a busy mind and a tight body finally loosen — is part of what helps you settle in at night. One herb, two jobs, same reason behind both.

Not bad for a plant most people walk right past.

I grow a lot of Lemongrass and it is one of my favorites herbs to add to my tea blends. I’ve made a refreshing summer tea with Lemongrass, Basil and Lime. Of course I add a touch of local honey to sweeten the tea. You can find a selection of organic, grown locally tea at Grace & Gratitude
