TRUST
-
Our very own Little Miss Sunshine, Vi, has been working out with us since late in the fall. She had a limited background in the gym when she started training, so every day was a new learning experience in most ways. New equipment. New movements for her body. New relationships to create with coaches and training on the whole. Her biggest asset was her willingness to be open to the experience and trust us with guiding her along the way.
-
Finding someone you trust when taking on a new experience can increase the return on the investment of time and energy, speed up the learning process and enrich the journey as a whole. There is, without a doubt, value and utility in learning things on your own and going through trial and error to reach a destination, goal, or conclusion. There is also greater risk involved early in that process. Whether unknowingly working toward dead ends and losing time or unexpectedly following a snake oil salesman or guru who is out only for their own gain, the risk of lost time, energy and money is high until you reach a point at which you can be truly self-sufficient.
-
Our goal is to build trust with you early in the coaching process and allow you to become largely self-sufficient over time. That is not to say that we want to kick you out, as much as to say that you will have the ability to decide that you *want* to choose to continue working with us rather than *needing* to work with us. We want you to have the ability to continue to surprise yourself in the tasks in which you are capable of undertaking, as Vi frequently does - like lifting 90 pounds last week! Without trust that we are making decisions with her goals and capabilities in mind, it’s unlikely she would have every attempted something like that. It’s a testament to both her willingness to trust us, but even more to trust herself in the entire process.

As a well-known African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” That hits at the core of trust. We want to constantly reframe your goals around long-term gain rather than short-term sacrifice to reach a destination.
