🍉 Growing Watermelon in the Desert

I’ve decided life is a lot like trying to grow a watermelon in the desert.

At first, everyone looks at you like you’ve lost your mind.

“Watermelon? HERE?” 😂

Yes. Here.

You dig into the hard, stubborn dirt, plant the little seed, give it some water, and then you wait.

And wait.

And wonder if anything is actually happening.

Then one tiny green sprout appears and suddenly you’re emotionally invested in this ridiculous little plant. 😂

Now you’re out there checking the soil, pulling weeds, protecting it from whatever creature has apparently decided your watermelon is its personal buffet, and making sure it gets enough water without drowning it.

Because apparently even watermelon has boundaries.

And eventually… there it is.

A big, beautiful watermelon growing in a place where people said it probably shouldn’t.

That’s life.

Some things aren’t impossible. They’re just inconveniently difficult.

Some dreams require more attention.
More patience.
More nurturing.
More getting your hands dirty.
And occasionally standing in the desert talking to a plant like, “Listen, buddy. We’ve both come too far for you to give up now.” 😂

You can grow beautiful things in hard places.

But you have to tend to them.

You have to keep showing up.

You have to water what you want to grow.

And sometimes you have to look at the desert around you and say:

“Fine. I’ll grow a watermelon anyway.” 🍉🌵

There was a time
I carried everything.
Unread messages.
Misunderstood intentions.
The opinions of people
who never bothered to know my heart.
I cared about fitting in,
about being enough for everyone,
about proving myself to people
who had already made up their minds.
I cared about perfection.
About explaining myself.
About being liked.
About winning every argument.
About fixing what was never mine to repair.
I don’t carry those things anymore.
I don’t care if my life makes sense
to someone committed to misunderstanding it.
I don’t care about applause
that disappears when the lights go out.
I don’t care about shrinking
to make insecure people comfortable.
I don’t care about being busy
just to look important.
I don’t care about chasing approval
from people who have never chased growth.
Setting those burdens down
didn’t make me careless.
It made me careful.
Now my cares are expensive.
I care about peace
that doesn’t depend on circumstances.
I care about my family,
my health,
my integrity,
and the promises I make to myself.
I care about deep conversations,
honest work,
strong bodies,
soft hearts,
and people who show up when it matters.
I care about becoming someone
my younger self would finally feel safe with.
Freedom wasn’t found
by caring about everything.
It arrived the day
I realized my attention is precious
and my energy is finite.
Now I spend both
like they are worth something.
Because they are.
And strangely enough,
the less I cared about what never deserved me,
the more room I had
to fiercely protect
everything that does.

I am not a spectator in my own life.

I am responsible for how I show up, how I respond, what I build, what I tolerate, and what I pursue. I may not control every circumstance, but I am accountable for the way I live within them.

Growth begins the moment we stop asking, “Why is this happening to me?” and start asking, “What is my responsibility here?”

That shift changes everything.

✨ I constantly need to remind myself that I must never act as if the world is happening to me instead of something I’m responsible for.

As a coach, messages like this make me smile.

Not because I’m about to make her workout harder (although… maybe 😉), but because it shows something much more important: ownership.

The best results don’t come from a trainer dragging someone toward their goals. They come when a client decides they’re ready for the next level and is willing to do the work to get there.

My job is to see what they’re capable of before they see it themselves, create a plan that gets results, and know exactly when it’s time to push and when it’s time to encourage.

Her job is to show up.

Today she showed up with determination, accountability, and a willingness to grow.

That’s where transformation happens.

I’m proud of the strength she’s building—not just physically, but mentally. And when a client says, “Let’s kick it up a notch,” you can bet I’ve already got a plan.

Growth doesn’t happen in your comfort zone. It happens when commitment meets coaching.

Let’s go 💪🔥

“Hi yes, I’d like to apply for the position of Permanent Person in Your Life. My qualifications include snacks, deep conversations, and remembering your dog’s birthday.”

And sometimes… they still left.

Which, frankly, was rude.
After all that rĂŠsumĂŠ work.

But somewhere along the way a funny realization settled in.

People aren’t chapters in your book.
Most of them are paragraphs.

Some are footnotes.
Some are plot twists.
A few are entire chapters.

But very few are the whole story.

And that’s actually okay.

Because life was never meant to be spent proving your worth to someone who is only passing through your timeline.

Your job isn’t to audition for permanent roles in other people’s lives.

Your job is to live your own story well.

To love the people who are present.
To appreciate the strange, beautiful cameos.
To laugh at the absurdity of how some people show up like hurricanes and leave like v***r.

And to understand that someone leaving doesn’t mean your value expired.

It just means their flight was boarding.

Meanwhile, you’re still here.

Still growing.
Still becoming.
Still collecting stories.

And honestly… the right people?

They don’t require a résumé.

They just pull up a chair.
