From “A big and common mistake I see when intaking clients, is that they think they need to create drastic changes to their life in order to get healthier.

Often I feel like this stems from having a bit of an overzealous idea of what “health” should look like, rather than saying “ok, this is where I am NOW, how can I add a few simple things to move me toward x”.

When I started working out, I had this image of who I wanted to be, what I wanted to look like, etc…and I didn’t think I would feel satisfied til I got there.

Now I simply ride the wave that is life and constantly ask myself “how can I add in a healthier behavior today? What can I do today to improve my health just 1%”?

Some days that may be a 10 minute walk, other days it might be a weightlifting session, or maybe just adding in a piece of fruit or a vegetable to my lunch.

I don’t look for perfection, I don’t look at health and fitness as an all or nothing. It’s a piece of the puzzle that is my life. Some weeks it fits in differently than others.

Ask yourself, how can I make 1 small adjustment to benefit me and my health? 1 thing that feels doable right NOW, not later when life is simpler, cause let’s be honest, does that ever actually happen?”

We love our plants here at locus fitness. 🪴

Did you know being in nature helps calm the mind, and improve mood? That’s why we brought the nature to us. Health isn’t just about working out, mental health plays a large role in overall health and quality of life as well.

Let’s stop gendering workouts shall we? I always correct my clients when they refer to push-ups as either “girl” or “guy” push-ups.

While something as small as this wording might not seem like much, it’s actually very damaging, and small changes can add up to major positive effects especially when trying to create an encouraging and inclusive space.

Exercises are not gender specific. Everyone who wants to do push-ups should be doing push-ups. If that’s from your knees great, if it’s from your feet great, if it’s from a wall great.

Let’s focus on adding movement where we can that fits our capabilities and not worry about the rest.

We have a new class schedule starting on the 19th over at locus fitness!! Super excited to get these classes rolling.

5x5 strength - taught by Samantha Davis
Monday and Wednesday at 11:00am-11:30am

“This class is a resistance training class that uses the 5x5 training method to gain muscle strength efficiently. Training with high weight at low repetitions with high rest intervals is proven to be one of the best ways to train strength. This class will focus on either legs and hip strength (Monday) or arms and back (Wednesday). Open to all levels, from the absolute beginner to the experienced lifter.”

Core flow - taught by Samantha Davis
Monday and Friday at 2:00pm-3:00pm

“This class is a blend of traditional core training, yoga, and pilates to create a fun core class! The core is the origin of all movement, and it's important to know how to strengthen it! This class will go over how to engage the Transverse Abdominis (TVA), and the pelvic floor. The TVA is the deepest ab muscle and important for gaining stability and strength. This class is open to all abilities and bodies. Come as you are and have a good time!”

Full body weightlifting - taught by yours truly!
Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30pm-7:30pm

“Full body weightlifting focuses on hitting each major muscle group through compound lifting such as squats, deadlifts, overhead press, rows, and pushing movements. Beginner friendly, come as you are and I will work around any injuries/needs you have.”
