Congratulations Shirley- our resident powerhouse!

Shirley joined us last fall. Today, she reached an absolutely massive milestone: her 100th training session here at Starting Strength Atlanta!

If you thought she was inspiring before, just look at her track record now. Shirley has not missed a single scheduled workout. At 80, she is still showing up, putting in the work, and deadlifting a mind-blowing 150 pounds!

Shirley is the ultimate proof that strength has no expiration date. She’s what we all aspire to be- dedicated, resilient, & completely unstoppable.

If you’ve been sitting on the fence, worried that you’ve waited too long to begin or that you’re “too old” to lift weights, let Shirley’s 100-session streak be your sign. Your body is capable of building strength at 30, 50, 80, and beyond. You don’t have to be “in shape” to start; you just have to show up.

Are you ready to see what your body is truly capable of?

Meet the Maxwell family.

There is something incredibly rewarding about seeing a family commit to getting stronger together. Mom, Dad, and their teenage son are all regular fixtures here at Starting Strength Atlanta, putting in the work and supporting each other every step of the way.

They are a great reminder that barbell training is for everyone, regardless of age or starting point. Watching them build strength and confidence as a family is exactly why we enjoy what we do!

Our gym is built on a welcoming, straightforward approach to strength training. Whether you train as a family or focus on your own individual goals, you will find a supportive environment here to help you succeed.

A recent Slack post from Coach Adam to our members-

In life, it is often said, “There are no free lunches.” Everything we do, want and pursue will come with a cost. The Starting Strength Method works really, really, really well. But, there is a downside- It is difficult. You must get under the barbell and it will get more challenging as time goes on. We have to face the difficulty found in the toil of one more set/one more rep. If there is one thing I have come to learn about society in general, they do not like hard, difficult and labor intensive. If you’re reading this, you are not them.

You are different in that you will accept hard, if hard means effective. No one comes to Starting Strength to “workout.” People come here to solve or prevent a problem. These range from Osteoporosis to diabetes. Perhaps, you have sarcopenia, osteopenia or you are or were just weak and frail. The best thing about spending time immersed in this community is we just don’t care about easy. Deep down, each of you on your first day knew that easy doesn’t work. It never has and it never will. Thank you for sharing in this discomfort to prevent or solve your issues. Prior to my own journey, I was just so fatigued with enduring a soft society.

You are better for living the strenuous life. You are an Athlete of Aging (The Barbell Rx). You are playing a very important sport- it’s called life. No one is coming to save you- save yourself.

In strength,
Coach Adam

Whenever I doubt myself, I look around and see these STRONG, encouraging, genuine, beautiful women & all the doubt disappears.

These ladies prioritize their health & their strength, & in turn, the people they love. They invest in themselves AND in each other.

Every one of these women decided that easy doesn’t work. They show up. They work hard. They bring an effort that is unmatched.

How lucky I am to exist in their orbit✨

Inspired & encouraged,
Laura

I am uninterested in what you cannot do. I am only interested in what you can do.

After several years of coaching, I have observed the hardest working trainees are not the young, athletic and genetically gifted.
Rather, it’s the ones that have a “why.” It is the ones who must overcome adversity.

Meet Joyce- osteoarthritis impacts her joints, her hands can be painful when gripping- she and I, collectively, simply found a way many months ago and here we are. She is stronger, less frail, and tougher physically and mentally.

What are you going to do- not train?

In strength,
Coach Adam
