We’ve had great times so far this week at our Special Olympics stand under the pavilion at the fair! We are in need of a few more Parents to man our stand at the fair on Friday night and Saturday night. Even if you can only work a couple of hours, that would be great! Every little bit helps and all money earned from the stand goes towards all of the awesome things we do as part of Special Olympics Illinois! Please call or message Tammy Powell or Patty Heineman if you can help out Friday or Saturday. We will have things all set up and ready to go for you, you just have to show up :-)Thanks so much!

Attention all Special Olympians on our Jersey Panthers Special Olympics team or any other special Olympics teams in Jersey County! We will be celebrating our success through two activities during the week of the Jersey County fair! Tuesday, July 10th we will be taking part in the Jersey County fair parade! We will have a truck available if you want to ride in the back or you may walk along or ride your bike. All athletes, coaches AND parents are invited to be in the parade! If you have a child on a bicycle of any type you must be in the parade with them. If you are going to be in the parade, please meet in the park across from Dairyland no later than 5:30 on Tuesday evening.We are also going to have a stand under the pavilion throughout the fair week! We will be selling items for Special Olympics Illinois and also having raffle baskets to raise money for our team! It’s a great opportunity for you to share with others all that you love about Special Olympics, bring pictures , photo albums , medals and share at the fair! Please message Patty Heineman if you are planning to be in the parade so we can plan on enough water and candy!Contact Patty Heineman or Tammy Powell if you are interested in working a couple of hours sometime throughout the week of the fair! Attention Special Olympic Athletes, Families and Fans.

Tuesday, June 12th will be the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Jerseyville leg of the run will start at approximately 11:30 at the American Legion and will run roughly 3 miles south to Shop N’ Save.

Please come out and show your support for our local law enforcement and Special Olympics Illinois!

All Jersey Special Olympic athletes are welcome to walk in the Torch Run. Athletes and coaches should meet at the St. Francis (across from MotoMart) parking by 11:30. Athletes and coaches will join the procession as they pass Holy Ghost.

The fire department will be grilling hot dogs (donated by Shop N’ Save) and all proceeds will go to Special Olympic Illinois.

We hope to see everyone on Tuesday!!

Summer Games Practices

In order to prepare for the Summer Games, we will be holding the following practices at the Sports Complex track, next to Illini.

Tuesday, June 5th - 6:30 - 7:30 pm
Friday, June 8th - 9:00 - 10:00 am
Monday, June 11th - 9:00 - 10:00 am

As we receive more information on the Summer Games, we will have it available at practices.

Our annual Respect Week, an activity that is part of our Unified Champion School program, will be going on next week, April 9th-13th. The theme this year is Respect is Golden-Happy 50th Birthday Special Olympics. Our culminating activity will be our dance on Friday the 13th. It will be from 7-9 pm at Illini. It is the main fundraiser for our Spring Games trip! We are the sponsors of this dance, so we will be looking for lots of volunteers to help with taking money and permission slips at the door, working concessions, crowd control, bathroom duty, etc. We always have a lot of fun! Please let me know if you are able to help at this year’s dance. High school special Olympics athletes are welcome to attend also, if their parents come and volunteer at the dance. Thanks so much and hope to hear from you soon!

The Valentine’s dance was awesome Friday night! A big THANK YOU to all the parents and staff who came to help and have fun at the dance! Haven’t counted up the money yet, but we did really well this year to kick off our fundraising for our Special Olympics trips this spring and summer! Thanks again everybody!

Attention all parents and coaches of our Jersey Panthers Special Olympics team! I hope everyone is staying warm today! Just wanted to send out a reminder about our annual Special Olympics parent meeting! It will be this Thursday, January 18th, at 6:30 in Mrs. Heineman‘s room at Illini. Please come so that you can get all the awesome information you need to know about our upcoming activities and how we are celebrating our 15th year of Special Olympics participation and the awesome 50th anniversary of Special Olympics! There will be snacks! See you there!
