We had a great turnout for our flag display over I-70 in honor of the Run For The Wall riders on May 17th. The riders consistently express their gratitude and appreciation for the support, as well as the complimentary fuel fill-up and our goodie bags. We extend our sincerest thanks to all who participated in and assisted with this event.

Medal of Honor recipient, Colonel Bruce Crandall, one of the most well-known helicopter pilots in US military history, has died at age 93. Crandall’s heroism became legendary during the Battle of Ia Drang in south Vietnam, the first major battle of the Vietnam War. Enemy fire at Landing Zone X-Ray was so intense that all helicopters were ordered to abort their medevac missions. Crandall ignored those orders. Crandall (“Snake”) and his wingman, Captain Ed “Too Tall” Freeman flew 22 unescorted missions into heavy small arms fire, RPGs, and mortars. Over 70 wounded soldiers were evacuated by Crandall and Freeman, in addition to delivering ammunition and other supplies to the front lines. Crandall flew over 900 combat missions in his two tours of Vietnam.

Crandall initially received the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions. He was awarded the Medal of Honor on 26 February 2007, by President George W. Bush. Crandall was portrayed by Greg Kinnear in the 2002 film “We Were Soldiers”, based on the book “We Were Soldiers Once…And Young” by Col. Hal Moore and war correspondent Joe Galloway.

The Jennings American Legion Post 351 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 351 will conduct graveside honor services this Memorial Day weekend.

Big Timber cemetery services will be held Sunday May 24 at 10AM.

Jennings cemetery services will be held Monday May 25 at 10AM.

Legion members participating in the services are requested to assemble at the Post at 9AM both days.

Services are weather permitting. Notification will be posted to this page if the location changes or if the events are cancelled.

The RFTW riders are expected to arrive in Oakley in about an hour. After they have lunch and fuel their bikes, they'll depart Mittens Travel Center around 1:20pm.

Our Legion Post will be setting up flags today at the west Grainfield exit overpass on I-70 starting at 12:30pm. We hope you can join us to give them a western Kansas welcome as they pass through. 🇺🇸

Get your ass on an overpass! The central route Run For The Wall riders will be passing through the area this Sunday, May 17. Everyone is encouraged to join us on the I-70 Grainfield west exit overpass at 12:30pm to show support to the riders. Bring your flags!
