A look back at the original founders of CMC, now 27 years ago. Still the best class out there.
As CMC celebrates 20 years as a spec racing series, we want to recognize the original 5 founding fathers. L to R, Don Trask with a history of racing J-Boats (a spec sailboat series) had a vision. Ben Pfaff, a veteran A-Sedan racer knew there was a cheaper alternative to engineer a series. Jeff Trask (RIP), was an amazing leader and mentor to bring new people into the sport and grow the series. (Those 3 pioneers developed the rule set and series philosophy.) Neil Breitenbach was a fierce competitor and designer of the CMC logo as it stands today. Todd Covini, fostered the “street stock” mentality for years driving his CMC car to and from NASA race weekends in the inaugural season. The series started as a single region series in Northern California which quickly spread to include SoCal. Without website technology, the series used snail mail flyers, Yahoo message boards and personal phone calls to generate interest and organize race weekends. Todd Covini later succeeded Jeff as the series director and assisted NASA with taking CMC nationwide into other regions, incorporating American Iron into its charter.
