What a week!

These students networked, interviewed, deliberated, voted, sang, danced, played, and persevered. They clapped for others when circumstances weren’t what we hoped. They presented themselves with professionalism and courtesy. They stepped out of comfort zones. They served others.

More than anything, they grew. They grew in ways that were so incredibly evident just in the car rides to and from convention.

Confidence. Motivation. Courage. Resiliency. All the things you don’t expect to come from “just a shop class”.

We are so proud of these representatives of Jena FFA and so excited to see where they continue to take the largest student led organization in the country.

One last CDE for the year!

Our carpentry team participated in the Area II contest today at the Natchitoches Parish Fair grounds. Their hard work impressed us beyond belief. They worked as a team, problem solved real world issues, and put skills learned in a classroom and school shop to real use.

While we did not place high enough to move to the state level contest, this team, lead by freshman Cooper Evans, has a lot of time to grow. We are so excited to see what next year brings for them!

One last event next Wednesday as we have our annual banquet to celebrate a year of hard work and growth.

Exciting things are happening in the Jena Ag building!

We were blessed to receive a brand new Plasma CNC table funded by a Cliff Williams Memorial Foundation grant. After much learning, Dru was able to use the software and machine to cut out what will be his final project for Welding.

We are so excited to use this machine and cannot thank CWMF enough for supporting this new endeavor!

Recently, our carpentry department was contacted by Farm Bureau about the need for a new board room table. Farm Bureau Jena board members recently got to enjoy a meal at the table that JHS carpentry built just for their specific space.

Community partnerships make this program run. Students got to be actively involved in the planning, building, and ultimately installation of the final product—all giving them real world experience that will last far beyond graduation.

The greenhouse is still open, but many items are nearing sell out. We currently plan to close our doors to the public at the end of April. As always, we deeply appreciate all the support shown to us this year!

A GIANT thank you to all of you who have come by, spoken with our crew, and ultimately let these students truly run a greenhouse business. NONE of this program is possible without the overwhelming support felt from the community.

We still have lots of pretty things and healthy veggies ready for a spot in your flower pots or garden plots.

Today, some of our students took off to take part in the Catahoula SWCD’s youth ag career fair. From networking with vendors to seeing the future of agricultural technology, our students got to put ideas learned at school into their real lives.

We are proud of how these kids represented themselves, our program, and Jena High. A huge thank you for those who played a part in running this fantastic program!
