The USA team at the 2024 Youth and Masters Pan American Championships began the event with five championship records and finished at the top of the medals table with an incredible haul of 12 gold, eight silver and four bronze.

WOMEN ON TARGET EARLY REGISTRATION

The Shooting Sports Committee of the Blue Grass Council (BGC) will conduct a Women On Target Instructional Event on August, the 24th.

I know it is a “long way off” but things in May through the end of summer camp will likely dominate my time such that I could forget or not be able to things during that time. I will contact you again, particularly if you tell me you are interested in attending.

Another reason I am doing this now is to provide a way for women associated with Scouting: Scoutmasters, Leaders. BSA members or not; to reserve a place to attend before I register the course with NRA as open to the public. Your verbal commitment will be sufficient for now. I will LATER provide information to you about how to register your participation on the NRA website.

This event will be limited to a maximum of 24 participants. That is another reason I am offering the verbal commitment now through June. Registration will go “public” July 1st . You are welcome to inform others you know that might be interested. I would like nothing more than that the class was filled with people that share the Scouting connection no matter how indirect or second hand.

The course fee will be $80. That includes breakfast snacks, lunch, all equipment and ammo. While formal registration will be with NRA (I can handle that for you if you want), payment will l come to me. I expect $40 to be paid by June 30th . The balance can be paid anytime up to the day of the event.

Women On Target is a WOMEN ONLY instructional clinic concept developed by the National Rifle Association (NRA). It is hosted by the Blue Grass Council (BGC) of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and conducted by the BGC Shooting Sports Committee. This program is targeted toward novice participants.

Do not be inhibited by your lack of knowledge or experience. This is the purpose of this course. We have found that the less shooting experience and instruction that you have had will likely prove to be a plus. The instructor to participant ratio is low so participants will receive a high level of one-on-one instruction. All instructors and RSOs have appropriate NRA credentials.

This clinic includes one-half day of basic pistol and one-half day of basic shotgun instruction and shooting. Instruction will include safety as a first and primary emphasis. Other topics will include firearm terminology, action types, firearm operation, handling, and practical exercises before live fire, that will be 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Another 2 to 2.5 hours will be committed to live fire.

The pistol to be used for this event is the R***r MK IV .22LR Semi-Automatic Target Pistol. The course of fire will include 100 rounds.

The shotguns to be used are the Benelli Montefeltro or M2 models and Savage Over &Under Shotguns. The ammunition is 20 gauge, 2 ¾”, 7/8 ounce “light” loads, not “field” or “hunting” loads. This combination offers the lightest possible felt recoil. The course of fire will involve shooting 50 rounds or more.

Anastacia Godman improved on the barebow U21 women’s record she set in 2022. On that occasion, she managed 500 when the event was held in Canada. Two years on, she scored 568.

Five championship records were set by USA archers as the 2024 Youth and Masters Pan American Championships got underway, with four coming in barebow and one in compound.
