Yearly mammogram ✅
I am 41, but I have been having mammograms since I was 30 due to our significant family history.
I had to fight to get mammograms in the beginning, and eventually was able to get in with genetic counseling at the Kauffman Cancer Center at Upper Chesapeake and with their recommendations, it became easier. Although after an ultrasound because of a new lump I found, I had to deal with the radiologist lecturing me about how I did not need to “run in here for everything little thing”…uh yeah, f- you bro 🙄.
I also do regular self breast exams, and have found lumps on occasion. I have had biopsies and I have clips in each breast marking spots that were suspicious.
My tech Holly at Advanced Radiology this time said it best, “get to know your breasts. They are like mountains with peaks and valleys and it’s important to know them all so you can know when something changes and you should come see us.”
I don’t think enough women do monthly self breast exams. DO THEM! In the shower I find is easiest, just after you finish your cycle. It doesn’t take long, and when you get really familiar with them, it’s easy to know when something changes.
Most importantly, be your own advocate!! Don’t be deterred by anyone, especially when you know something is off. Early detection can save your life and there is nothing more important than that!!
Who has done their yearly mammo and who still needs to schedule??? Let me know because i am happy to hold you to doing it! 💗💗💗
