A Hoffman Hot Dog Love Story! π©·π«Ά
(I told a few of you I'd share my grandparents love story and how it related to...of all things...Hot dogs! So here we go!)
Two weeks ago, when I was baking (and frying) for our State Fair Theme, I mentioned specifically picking Hoffman's Brand hot dogs for our corn dogs because they held a special place in my heart. My grandparents fell in love over hot dogs!
My Bubbie (the Yiddish term for Grandmother) loved to tell the tale. And I loved to hear it (so I'll take one more chance to share it!)!
My young grandmother (Irene, who I think was 17 at the time) came home one day and told her older sister she was asked on a date.
Her sister was mortified. "PAUL MILLER? You don't want to go out with him! He's fickle!!!"
Oh--but she did!
On their first date, he took her to Heid's (which served HOFFMAN HOT DOGS) for a Coney and chocolate milk....
And then "squeezed it out of her" later that night! π€
He wasn't fickle.
He adored her.
She'd tell me "I'd open my mouth and pearls would drop out! He'd kiss me every time he left the room...even to take out the garbage!"
Sadly, we lost him when I was twelve. She was still a beautiful woman, but never considered looking at another man.
I grew up thinking THAT'S how love is supposed to look! (And I'll make sure that's what love looks like
for myself in my next chapter! Every woman should have a "Paul Miller" π«Άπ©·)!
And we've always held Hoffman's Hot Dogs in high regard. π
So tomorrow, we'll have one more round of corn dogs. Definitely some Hoffman's!
(***My memories of these stories are from my early teens...so if any of my cousins or aints/uncles sees any inaccuracies, please feel free to correct me! Perhaps I've romanticized the story in my mind! π)
