Hellhole Gravel Grind Stage Race

Hellhole Gravel Grind Stage Race October 3-5, 2025 October 4-6, 2024. The forest is named for the revolutionary war hero Francis Marion, who was known to the British as the Swamp Fox.

The Hellhole Gravel Grind Prologue, 2-Day Stage Race and 1-Day Race will take place on the gravel roads in and around Hellhole Swamp in the Francis Marion National Forest. He used these swamps, creeks and forest areas to ambush and hide from the British and was depicted in the movie “The Patriot”. The Friday evening Prologue will be an optional, time bonus event on an all gravel 6 mile out and bac

k. The time trial style event will begin at sunset so headlights and tail lights will be required. The 2-Day Stage Race will be approximately 75 miles each day. The courses will be 90%+ of unpaved roads and trails. This is a true stage race with the lowest cumulative time over the two days determining the overall winner. For those less ambitious, there will be a 1-Day 75 mile and 45 mile ride on the first day of the Stage Race. Categories:

No two courses are the same, and the same holds true for 2025!

We’ve curated the 2025 Hellhole Gravel Grind courses to showcase the immense expanse of the Francis Marion National Forest.

Long leaf Pine forests, Cypress swamps, coastal plains, and a few surprises on the hard packed, fast rolling gravel. Over 90% unpaved!

THE PROLOGUE

Each year the Hellhole Gravel Grind has featured a twilight prologue to kick off the weekend and 2025 will be no different!

Details 👇
Date: October 3, 2025 6:30 PM
Loc: Hellhole Road Primitive Camp
What: Riders depart in 20 second intervals for an all-out effort on a flat, 10 km out and back course. Front and rear lights are required.

The prologue is completely optional and free with entry in any course distance. Riders are given time bonuses over non-prologue competitors and time differentials on prologue competitors.

The prologue is chill, but there will be some fast and fun times (tattoos optional-but they do make you look tough!)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We get by with a little help from our friends! You can imagine putting on a weekend of gravel racing requires a lot of work and we can always use good help from smiling faces!

We're looking for a few volunteers for this year's Hellhole Gravel Grind! Duties include staffing aid stations, working race registration, and assisting with parking. Each volunteer gets an event T-shirt, food, free entry into one of our future events in the next year, and we'll kick in $50 towards your LOWVELO fundraising page (if applicable).
