This evening, there was a partial eclipse over the UK. The previous was over 11 years ago. While taking this shot, a satellite passed in front at the perfect moment. One little detail that makes the whole image more interesting in my opinion.

Some scenes from our 1000 miles on the Yukon river. Exploring the untouched wilderness was truly unforgettable. I feel so privileged to have been able to kayak in areas as remote as this. Photos and videos don't do the journey justice. Whether it's the jubilation of finishing, the warmth of the morning sun, towering cliffs, snow-capped mountains, or wildlife; every moment was breathtaking despite the immense physical toll that 18 hours of kayaking each day was having on our bodies.

WE DID IT!!!

7 days 3 hours and 9 minutes after setting off from Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada, team "Lookout! Roo! Paddle!" arrived 1000 miles away in Alaska at the finish of the Yukon 1000.

After kayaking for 18 hours a day for 7 straight days, battling sleep deprivation, sun exposure, isolation, horrendous head winds, navigating untouched wilderness, and a 48-hour continuous hail storm, we crossed under the Dalton Highway Bridge which signifies the end of the toughest, longest, and most intense paddle race on the planet.

I have been incredibly lucky to have shared this experience with the most amazing teammate in David Ceddia, who single handedly steered us through the course following the fastest flows and quickest routes. His knowledge, experience, and refusal to ever accept less than 100% of himself paired perfectly with my competitiveness and drive to land us at the finish faster than we thought possible for us.

The whole team behind the race are committed to keeping this event a uniquely spiritual and traditional one that honours the first peoples whom journeyed this river for millennia, and the people who more recently would seek riches in the uncharted lands the Yukon River meandered through. This expedition race is not for profit or spectacle; it's for people to find something in themselves on an introspective and life-defining adventure. I want to give a big thank you to the race director, Jon and his whole team Yukon1000Race for flawlessly running such an authentic experience for us all. It has been a true honour to have been part of it.

I am feeling pretty beaten up, and will take a while to recover from such a demanding event. Soon, it will be time to focus on the next adventure. Stay tuned!

Back in September, I attended the Gathering, an annual event organised by ALDHA-West to celebrate hiking and educate about some of the aspects hikers face on trail. Part of the program is the Triple Crown award ceremony, where the people who have finished thru-hikes of the Appalachian Trail, Continental Divide Trail, and Pacific Crest Trail are awarded a plaque, and their achievements are celebrated.

I was honoured to be part of it all. What a way to wrap up the Triple Crown. In 2020, the pandemic changed my plans. In 2021, I started making plans to take on the Triple Crown. In 2022, I completed the AT. 2023 saw me hike the PCT. I finished the trio on the CDT in 2024, and in 2025 I was acknowledged as a Triple Crowner. A multi-year, 8000-mile journey neatly wrapped up.

It was wonderful to be around so many amazing people, and to feel part of such a supportive group who have made the conservation and promotion of the US Scenic Trail Network their life's mission. Just like all the trails I've hiked, I went into it alone and came away with a lot of new friends and wonderful memories. I've always said the people who make up our community are what make thru-hiking special.

Thank you to all of the organisations who ensure that despite the political, economic, and ecological challenges, we have trails to hike on, to meet new friends, disconnect from the stresses of life, and live in the moment. Trails that lead us through the most beautiful parts of the USA, and push us to grow as we conquer their challenges. Each one is life-changing. Doing these three has changed me.
