Last weekend the team traveled to Harrisonburg, VA for a few days of cycling and team bonding. In our 6th year as a team, this was the first time we organized an excursion or training camp together with the objective of climbing some real mountains. Riding in the Philly suburbs doesn't lend us to this opportunity very often, so everyone who joined was super stoked!

On Friday the majority of us met up for a shake out ride with some very flowy roads. We could see the mountains all around us, which got us excited for what was the come on Saturday. We arrived at the AirBnB in the late afternoon, which was an amazing modern farmhouse with a pool. It was set on a farm along a gravel road away from the more populated areas, and served as a great launchpad for heading to the mountains.

Saturday we rode a 73-mile route with over 7,000 feet of elevation gain which included two HC category climbs - Hightop and Reddish K**b. The team rode together well, especially during the lead in to both climbs, and we were treated to spectacular views at the top. Everyone enjoyed the fast, smooth descents as well, which were quite the reward for our efforts. Special shout out to our sherpa Samantha, who provided us with much needed water at the top of Reddish K**b. It was a very successful day!

This past weekend marked the final race on the PA Crit road calendar for WCDev, and we had a great showing from the team!

Starting off the day in the Men's Cat 4/5 race, Chris T was tactically sound, making all the right moves and saving his energy for the right moments. There were two leaders up the road, but Chris managed to stick with the peloton until the very end of the race to secure his best finish of the year placing 6th! Great job Chris!

The next race of the day was the Women's Cat 5 race. Krystal fought very hard in the lead peloton of six cyclists. Early on she did a lot of the work, then smartly moved to the back of the group to conserve her energy for the end. As the peloton came on to the final stretch, she dug hard for a 3rd place finish, almost taking 2nd place on the line! Congrats on the podium finish!

In the Men's Cat 3/4 race, John and Ethan battled it out with a very fast group. There were many attacks in this race, and a couple of cyclists up the road, which kept the peloton feisty until the end. In the field sprint John took 11th place, and Ethan came in at 13th. Very respectable showing in a hard fought race!

And last, but not least, Chris H was our sole participant in the Master's 55+ race. As usual, the Active Yards and Bigfoot Endurance teams got riders in the breakaway, but that came off of Chris' attack to win his first of two Primes. He was able to finish in with the peloton, but achieved his goal of winning at least one Prime. Enjoy the swag, Chris!

The 3rd installment of the PA Gravel Series at Michaux State Forest saw 8 of us geared up to race some tough gravel terrain. The course had some of the biggest climbs whether racing the short, half, or full courses. And as with most hills, what goes up must come down, resulting in very fast and technical descents bordering on the need for a mountain bike. If you haven't tried riding down a 1000+ ft descent on a bike before, I would not recommend making the gravel roads at Michaux your first attempt.

The day was full of extreme highs and extreme lows for the team. We either achieved top 5 results or DNFs (Did Not Finish). The results are below showcasing four podiums!

SHORT SERIES
Men's Open:
Steve - 3rd Place
Curt - 4th Place

HALF SERIES
Men's Open:
Brian - 3rd Place

Men's 60+:
Chris - 1st Place
Will - DNF

Women's Open:
Melissa - 2nd Place
Krystal - DNF

FULL SERIES
Men's Open:
Ethan - DNF

Notable mentions:

Chris locked up the overall series win for the Men's 60+ Half Series with his 3rd consecutive 1st place result. Nobody can overtake him now with only two races left. This is the second year in a row that he has won the overall series. Congratulations Chris!

Melissa took 2nd place in the Women's Open Half Series in her first gravel race ever! She has only been riding a gravel bike since this spring, so she really showed true grit out there!

Brian finally got a chance to race this season and secured 3rd place in the Men's Open Half Course! The men in this category were blazingly fast. Brian had the fastest effort on the team!

Lastly, our leader Steve held on to 3rd place in the Men's Open Short Series, maintaining 2nd overall in the series.

All three who DNFed had different struggles, whether with overheating, muscle cramping, or getting involved in a crash. They are all safe and well, and will be ready for the next race.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ride a bike on an airport runway? Well the men's Cat 4 road team got a chance to find out at one of the coolest races on the PA Cycling calendar; the Smoketown Airport Crit in Lancaster County. The course is two long straightaways and a few curves at each end with a 180 degree curve after cruising downgrade.

Chris, Ethan, and Donny joined in the action to represent the team in the Cat 4/5 race. Some bad luck for Donny at the bottom of the descent with a pedal malfunction dropping him off the back of the peloton halfway through the race. Toward the end of the with less than 2 laps to go, Chris launched a breakaway with one other cyclist, which eventually was caught before the finish line. While the move didn't end up successful for Chris, it managed to keep the pace of the peloton fast and hard allowing Ethan to sneak his way toward the front and contest for the final sprint. The gradual uphill finish played into his hands perfectly and he edged out the two leaders right at the line to take 1st place! 🥇

Congrats to Ethan on the first road win of his racing career, also securing some critical upgrade points in the process! And great work by both him and Chris executing their roles perfectly in the moments toward the end of the race! These tactics are racing 101, and I'm so glad to see these guys getting results for all their hard work!

The road crew was back in action again on Saturday at the Simon's Hear Conshy Classic! This is the second year for the race, so we're glad to see it having continued success. Chris and Ethan represented the team in the Men's Cat 3/4 race, and with both of them being Cat 4, they were looking for some much desired upgrade points! The race course has some technical corners and a short, but steep climb to the finish. Unfortunately for Chris, he dropped his bottle early on and had to race hard without water, eventually popping off the peloton with three laps to go. Ethan was able to hold on at the front, engaging in the final sprint up the hill with the leaders and taking home 5th place! Great job! Both of them are having phenomenal starts to the season, and we know the they're knocking on the door step for a podium! Up next is the Easton Twilight Criterium, and WCDev will be ready to face off against the other teams!

Special thanks to our teammates Donny and Jenn for providing the photos and video!

The PA Gravel Series picked up again with the Parker Dam Gravel Grinder just to the west of State College, and WCDev was up to the task! The Short Series Men's Open race included Steve and Curt, and the Half Series 60+ Men's race had Chris and Will. Unlike last week, the race was a mass start, meaning all the distances and categories started at the same time. This was a big advantage for the team because most of us are used to riding fast in a peloton. We made sure we started up near the front so we could save energy by not having to pass everyone. The start was fast and mostly downhill, so super fun and punchy without blowing up the legs.

The Short Course broke off from the Half and Full course at about mile 9, so Curt and Steve were able to ride along with the faster long distance racers for that whole stretch. After the turnoff Steve was at the front with one other cyclist, and held that position until about 8 miles to go in the race. Curt was back a bit further, but in sight of the front two, keeping a steady hold on 3rd. At the finish Steve came in 2nd, and Curt finished 3rd, both securing a podium!

During the half series, shortly after the course diverged, Chris started to establish the gap from his competitors by maintaining efforts with some of the faster cyclists in different categories. Chris held that position for the entirety of the race, coming in 1st at the line, coming in under 3 hours for the 50 mile course! Will followed up shortly shortly after to secure 2nd place and continue the team's dominance in the category!

Steve and Curt are 2nd and 3rd overall in the PA Gravel Series Standings for the Short Course Open Men's category, and Chris and Will are 1st and 2nd overall in the PA Gravel Series Standings for the Half Course 60+ Men's category. The next race will be at Michaux State Forest on June 29th! Great job team, and thanks for putting on another awesome races Trans-sylvania Productions!

The roadie crew was back at it again this weekend at the Garden State Stage Race. A stage race consists of three separate stages including a time trial (TT), a road race (RR), and a criterium/circuit race (CR). There is a winner for each stage, but also an overall winner for the general classification (GC) which is for the person with the lowest total cumulative time between all three stages. Chris, Pat, and Donny were entered into the Cat 4/5 race, and Ethan in the Cat 3/4 race. Below are their results!

Saturday TT:
Cat 3/4 - Ethan 9th
Cat 4/5 - Pat 8th, Chris 15th, Donny 34th

Saturday RR:
Cat 3/4 - Ethan 6th
Cat 4/5 - Pat 13th, Chris DNF (Flat), Donny DNF (Flat)

Sunday CR:
Cat 3/4 - Ethan 8th
Cat 4/5 - Chris 7th, Pat 25th, Donny 30th

Overall GC:
Cat 3/4 - Ethan 6th
Cat 4/5 - Pat 17th

Special shoutout to Ethan for achieving 6th in the GC, and top 10s in all three stages in the Cat 3/4 category after two hard days of racing! Seriously solid effort by Pat securing 8th in the Cat 4/5 TT and maintaining solid finishes in the other stages. Lastly, great resilience by Chris for coming back from a DNF and securing 7th in the Circuit Race on Sunday! .
