Don Saylor, a Kentucky native who has spent the last thirty something years in Alabama. He comes from a long line of Saylors who built things with their hands, things made to stand the test of time. Over the years, Don has spent lots of time hiking through the woods, rifle in hand, hunting turkey, deer, wild hogs, squirrels – anything that might make for a nice supper. Don't just Call 'Em.......Kill 'Em! Now To tell you a little more about Straight Creek and how it come to be! Straight Creek Calls is a family business. In fact I chose the name"Straight Creek" because it reminds me of my family home. I was born and raised in the Appalachians near the Cumberland Gap in a small community called Stoney Fork. If someone asked for directions I would just say it was off the right fork of Straight Creek. (Mountain people would understand that!)
I fell in love with an Alabama girl and moved here thirty something years ago. During the week I worked as a machinist, and on the weekend, my boys and I went hunting. Today, my sons and nephew help with production and sales. My wife keeps track of the business end of things, and that “Handcrafted by Saylor” you see engraved on all of my calls? That’s my oldest grandson’s handwriting. I spend my days hunched over my lathe and milling machine in the shop out behind our house. I am absolutely committed to quality – if a call doesn’t sound just right, into the discount bin it goes. That dedication to excellence is probably why our sales have tripled in the last year. While we continue to grow, WE WILL NEVER forget where we came from and why we do this – for you, our customer! Never hesitate to let us know how we can help. Happy hunting and I look forward to hearing from you all!
