We are witnessing the world's most expensive magic trick. Every year, organizations pay $366 billion for a ticket to the show: the grand illusion of leadership improvement.
Yet, after the curtain falls, McKinsey research shows a staggering 89% of executives feel the magic was just smoke and mirrors.
The gap between our leadership potential and our actual performance is the silent space where the trick happens.
We have talented people. We have vast resources.
So why does real, sustainable improvement vanish before our eyes?
It reminds me of the question physicist Enrico Fermi asked about the universe: "Where is everybody?"
We face a similar paradox in our organizations:
"Where have all the great leaders gone?"
The answer: they are trapped by an illusion I call The Great Filter of Leadership.
This is not an external barrier, but an internal one.
It’s a trick of the mind, projected by a fundamental glitch in our mental hardware: our Hidden Operating System.
We believe we are making conscious choices, but we are actually running ingrained patterns and hidden defaults that sabotage our best intentions.
For years, I've moved my work from simple "team building" to deconstructing this very illusion. I've identified the 5 core sleights of mind that create the filter.
My mission is to help leaders stop being fooled by the trick and become the architects of the effect.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll reveal the frameworks that pull back the curtain.
The complete forensic toolkit is detailed in my new book, The Great Filter of Leadership.
If you're frustrated by the gap between your intentions and your team's reality, let's connect.
It's time to learn how the trick is done.
