Setting Goals

Setting achievable and obtainable goals is an important part of any dancers training. From wanting higher leaps to wanting to nail the turn sequence, goals are what drive you to the next level.

How do we use those goals to help with strength and conditioning training?

🌟 We use it as a base to build your training off of. It helps ensure we are targeting muscle groups and movements to help achieve your goals

🌟 We use it as motivation to put in the work and helps keep you accountable for your training

These are 5 items I highly encourage every dancer to have to help bring their strength training to the next level

1. Yoga blocks
2. Numbered Stretch band
3. Mini loop bands (various levels)
4. Woven loop bands
5. Kettle bell

Each one of these items can increase the effectiveness of any exercise. These items are NOT required to have a great workout but they are only there to enhance!!

Building Strength vs Building Muscle

Ever hear someone say “if a dancers starts strength training/cross training they will get bulky”

Well I’m here to tell you that’s false and here’s why: Building strength aims to increase the functional ability of the muscles while building muscle is aiming to build the size of a muscle.

Strength training does not imply that you will grow in muscles size. You will aim to increase the ability of the muscle you already have. Now can you make these two item work together yes!

Flexibility vs Mobility

What is the difference?

🌟Flexibility is the ability of a muscle to lengthen passively through a range of motion.

🌟Mobility is the ability of a joint to move actively through a range of motion

Mobility is gained when we strengthen the muscles engaged in the movement. As those muscles become stronger and able to handle more of the work dancers will see an increase in flexibility because the correct muscles are engaged and working to provide the base for the flexibility.
