Tubes or Tubeless?

A common question we see in the shop is "Should I go tubeless on my bike?" We asked our awesome service team to give us the skinny and help with an answer:

"My litmus test for going tubeless is how often are you riding outdoors? To avoid having the sealant in the tire dry out too fast, you need to ride the bike at least 2-3 days/week. This agitates the sealant inside and keeps it viable for longer. If you ride at least that much, you'll benefit from tubeless. Expect to refresh your sealant at least twice, ideally three times in a year.
If you ride less that that, for many customers tubeless is not worth it. The bike will sit for long periods, the sealant doesnt get mixed up and it will coagulate in the bottom of the tire. When this happens and you get a puncture, the sealant doesnt do its job and you end up with a flat.
There are also high performance tubes such as latex or TPU that perform just as well as tubeless but without the hassel of sealant.
A successfull tubeless setup is heavily reliant on the quality of the sealant inside the tire, we stock Silca and Orange Seal Endurance, they work the best by clotting the fastest.
I also reccomend a good plug kit, sometimes those punctures need a little help sealing up. Not just any kit but one designed for bikes. Dynaplug is by far the best plug kit on the market, we have them too!"
