Kisses Fitness

Kisses Fitness Have fun. Get fit. Be fabulous. I am not a fitness expert. I am not a nutrition expert.

What I am is someone who wants to make a positive change in the fitness and nutrition in my own life, and hopefully inspire others to do the same. Above all, I want this journey to be fun because if it isn't fun, no one (including me) will stick with it. So let's have some fun together, and in the process I know we will get fit and be fabulous - what more can you ask for in life?

The official announcement came today: the Seattle RnR Marathon has been cancelled. I can't say that this is a surprise to me, but the timing of the announcement is a bit of a punch in the gut as I set out on this mission to accomplish a physical feat I felt impossible to help me commemorate Jon completing Ranger School on the first attempt and the unfortunate events that followed. Ten years ago (to the day) we pinned his tab, but today my finish line got pushed out a year. If there's one thing I've learned along the way it's that your plans and intentions rarely go off the way you thought. So while I might not be reaching this milestone when I thought and to mark the occasion I wanted it to represent, I'm staying the course.

I may have been a little silent on this page the last few weeks as I tried to make sense of the world around me and the seemingly consistent changes, but I have remained committed to my training. Even the long runs provide a nice distraction and let me focus on things I can control.

And as of now my marathon is still on the calendar, so my training continues on too. As much as I hate social media sometimes, I am thankful for the catalog of memories it brings back, especially during times like these.

I signed up for a couple of virtual races to reward myself and help keep me motivated for training the long runs this spring. Gave myself this half marathon medal after today’s run (14 miles) - best part is that it’s an awesome wine stopper! I’ll be putting that to use tonight 😜🥂

Dr. Anthony Fauci has been running the same federal entity through some of the worst crises of the last half-century: AIDS, anthrax, swine flu, Ebola and, now, a coronavirus pandemic. He’s also been running for almost the entire time.

I am woman, here me roar! Throughout this marathon training journey I have constantly been amazed at what my body and mind are capable of achieving. 90 days to go!

It may be the final day, but I got my award this month! When I first saw my watch was challenging me to go 175 miles in the shortest month of the year I was disheartened. Thankfully it counts all my steps, not just the ones in workout mode, but working up to longer training runs than I’ve ever done helped a lot too. Proud of myself for not giving up and earning this one this month 😊

Thanks to the crew with wear blue, I was blessed with new shoes to keep my training going strong for the Seattle marathon. I’ve always had a weakness for shoes, but now that I’m a runner that love has intensified.

Today's trip down memory lane of Jon's Ranger School adventures is brought to you by Avatar. 10 years ago, this was the weekend between the "let's see if you're really as ready for this as you think you are challenge" and actual Ranger School. Being the sci-fi geek that he was, Jon was super excited about Avatar coming out and that was the only thing that he wanted to do on his free weekend (other than see me, of course). I was less than thrilled about being subjected to a three hour movie with blue people, but he earned his down time. The weekend was a super cold and rainy weekend, with very little going on in Columbus, so movie and food marathon it was. I picked From Paris with Love, which is a good action movie - I do love a good blow 'em up scene and as previously stated, Jon picked Avatar. I was super surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did, but I think if I had known the story line rather than just hearing about the high-tech special effects all the time I might have been more interested at the get-go.

It’s darker than this pic makes it seem, but I didn’t give in when the alarm went off this morning and I got up to run before work for the first time in a loooooong time so that I could stay on track despite rain, work luncheon, piano lessons, and family time all on the schedule today.

Yes to so many of these! I thought running was a cheap sport - not if you want to take care of your body. And no one ever tells you how gross running actually is - you will find an abandoned lot or construction porta-potty or similar that you barely make it to before bursting, you will blow your nose A LOT!

In this guest post, Susan Lacke shares 18 things no one told her about running.
