We want to provide some context regarding the incident that has been circulating online.

This individual appeared to be in serious distress, and we genuinely hope he gets the professional help and support he needs. He entered our academy shirtless, yelling, cursing, making threats, and behaving in a way we perceived as looking for a confrontation. Had he entered looking for a calm dialogue between adults, this situation would have been completely different.

We repeatedly asked him to leave peacefully. Instead, the situation continued to escalate. He was flailing his arms, balling his fists, making threats, and ultimately threatened to come back and hurt us. With children, teenagers, and families in the academy, we could not ignore that behavior.

We do not condone unnecessary violence. Our goal was to remove him from the academy and gain control of a situation that was getting out of hand. Once we were able to get him outside, he became even more visibly upset and aggressive. After repeated attempts to calm the situation, we ultimately restrained him to prevent things from escalating further.

Was a double-leg the only possible choice? Maybe not. But in a rapidly escalating situation, the goal was simple: control the situation without turning it into a fight.

We will always try to de-escalate first, but we will not allow our students, staff, or families to be threatened or intimidated in their own academy.

Most importantly, we’re thankful this behavior came to light before this individual progressed further in his jiu-jitsu training. Our responsibility will always be to protect the safe environment our members trust us to provide.

Jackson Heights Day ❤️🥋

What an incredible day celebrating the community that makes Jackson Heights so special. Different cultures, different backgrounds, and different stories all coming together as one.

For us, Jackson Heights is more than where we do business. It’s home. I was raised here, I’m raising my family here, and now we have the privilege of sharing the martial art we love with the community that has given us so much.

Martial arts, just like Jackson Heights, brings people from all walks of life together through respect, discipline, family, and community.

We’re proud to serve this neighborhood and even prouder to call Jackson Heights home. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who came out and made Jackson Heights Day so special!

Rolling in class and competing aren’t the same. Competition turns everything up—pace, pressure, intensity. Every grappler should experience it at least once. It pushes you to train smarter, sleep better, recover harder, and become better on and off the mats.

Years of memories, countless trips, endless cuts, and more cleaning than we ever imagined. Every box moved, every sheet of plywood, every helping hand brought us closer. This wasn’t just a move—it was our community building its next chapter together. 🥋💙

Another great weekend at the Jersey Open. A small group, but a strong showing from our team. Tough matches, medals earned, and plenty of moments to be proud of. Most importantly, everyone represented Jiu Jitsu NYC with heart, skill, and a great attitude. Back to work. 👊

Part 2: The Move

Turns out building a platform requires a lot more plywood—and a lot more stairs—than we expected. 😅

What could’ve been a headache became another great memory thanks to everyone who showed up and carried the load. New building, same amazing community. That’s what we’re most proud of.
