Pups did good today running with their parents. Still a lot to learn but they are getting there. Rabbit hunts here we come.

Ok finally a slow day! The season wrapped up with a bang! On Tuesday of the fourth week we finally got a little wind to help with the tracking noise. I started out on a track at daylight. Looked really good at first but realized after a while I wasn’t a deer I was going to shoot. The snow was that funny consistency that doesn’t hold a track well. I took a ride in a new area I had only been once before just to ride thru. 8 am and I was the first one on the rd! I cut a track with in 500 yards. Looked pretty good but I continued on a few more miles. Not finding anything else I went back and took that track. He immediately was checking doe tracks and was definitely searching. Followed for probably 3 miles and came to a spot where he had dug up some ferns. I realized I had jumped him while he was feeding. Immediately sat down I knew he was headed to bed down. I gave him 40 minutes to make sure he had time to get nice and comfy! I went 400 yards on his track and he stood up in his bed and hesitated to see what I was. I put the gun up saw antlers and pulled down and fired! He jumped up and ran. I thru a second shot at him as he disappeared. After checking the spot he was standing I knew he was down. 500 yard drag and he was in the truck! Another great day in the woods and a freezer of meat! Not my biggest buck but a great hunt!

Well the third week did not disappoint! With 20+ deer seen 5 bucks. 1 small one passed up multiple times. 3 misses and a nice buck taken. The snow was perfect but needed a little wind to cover up some noise. 197 lb 6 pnt taken by my buddy Dave!

The first two weeks were challenging to say the least. As most of you know the weather was unseasonably warm and windy! The first week went by with only a single doe spotted. Last week I had three guys sitting. They saw 8 deer 5 does, 1 Unknown, a spike, and a good buck chasing a doe but no shot. 5 of the 8 were seen on Wednesday morning. It was 19 degrees and stayed cold until around 10. Stay tuned there is snow on the ground and more coming! The cold is here and things are heating up!

Ok the 4th week is in the books! We saw lots of deer and moose. One client missed a big boy on Tuesday. It was a long shot and the bullet just didn’t get there. Second client had a chance on Wednesday and no luck! I ended the week tracking a big boy and gave him a hair cut after many miles of tracking. Muzzleloader here we come. P. S. 11 deer seen so far this week. Stay tuned it should get good!

It’s been a crazy season I missed most of the first two weeks due to a family emergency. The third week brought on the rut and the bucks where searching. Searching = lots of miles on the track. Thursday we realized was going to be our last good snow day. We got on a good one at 8:30 by 9 he stood up in front of us at 75 yards or so. 2 shots and a clean miss later he was gone. We never caught up to him again. 3 bucks , 6 does, 6 moose, and countless grouse seen. A good time had by all.

Took a walk yesterday and did some looking. I found 6 antlers. 1 was way over ripe, 1 was just right, and the other four definitely needed a little more time! Lol I have tried to get them at that point but the bulls get very angry!!! Lol great day in the woods either way!
