Happy 80th Birthday to Robert Jeter
🏆 From the Gridiron to the Finish Line (and Defying Time): A Lifetime of Pushing Boundaries 🏈🏃♂️
Looking back at this moment from 1982, crossing the finish line at downtown King Street for the Cooper River Bridge Race. Clocking in at an incredible 34:34 and taking 1st place in the 35-year-old age group is a milestone I’ll never forget. Running under the Charleston Running Club (CRC) colors, that race represented the culmination of a lifetime built around grit, speed, and standard-setting conditioning.
Long before trading cleats for racing flats, my athletic roots were firmly planted on the football field. Those intense football days taught me the value of explosive power, mental toughness, and what it truly means to leave everything out on the field. I'll never forget the feeling of looking over and standing on that field next to my old teammate—the legendary NFL star and Citadel Football Legend John Small (https://abcnews4.com/archive/citadel-football-legend-john-small-dies-at-66). Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with a powerhouse like John, you didn't just play to win; you played to meet a standard of absolute excellence. That passion for the game eventually brought me to Blacksburg, where I had the privilege of serving a short but unforgettable coaching stint at Virginia Tech. Working with the Hokies allowed me to pass on those exact principles of discipline to the next generation of competitors.
Fast forward to today, and that same athlete's mindset is fueling my biggest comeback yet. For the past 11 weeks, I have been locked into our intensive, six-month EVEDP reversal program to tackle left ventricular stiffness.
The dedication is paying off in massive ways. Looking at my telemetric data, the numbers show a heart that is actively remodeling, expanding its capacity, and growing more compliant by the day. Even more incredible? The clinical testing shows my physiological age has drastically dropped over these 11 weeks—proving that with the right data-driven training, you can literally reverse cardiac aging and wind back the clock.
Whether it was standing on the gridiron next to John Small, coaching at Virginia Tech, pacing a 10K, or rewriting my cardiovascular future today, the drive to compete and optimize never stops. The race against time is one we are officially winning.
