Once upon a time sea lions slept at Sands and almost no one surfed Devereax. Once upon a time, Isla Vista was an outpost with chickens, cows and pirates.

Three years ago surf team alumni and fellow Gaucho Daniela and Lukas started making a book about Isla Vista’s long-standing surfers. Finally, the book is finished!

The 100-page coffee table book is filled with interviews, images, and stories of our beloved town and those who have a unique perspective on the changing culture and environment. There are profiles on Hank Pitcher, the designer of the S*x Wax logo, and Randall Stoker, the original shaper of the Stoker V-Machine, to name a few!

Currently, the authors are running a Kickstarter to secure the funds to publish the book. You can presale order the book for $35 or purchase a sick T-shirt or print to help them reach their goal! All proceeds go towards covering the cost of printing and publishing.

Please consider supporting this epic project to time stamp our special town’s deep-rooted surf culture.

Cheers to a fantastic weekend up in Santa Cruz for the final event of the season. A huge shoutout to for his finals appearance in men’s shortboarding, to for his performance in the coed longboard final and to @0.0_nikita_0.0 for holding it down for the women! We are so grateful for all the support and are stoked to have gone out with a bang! Until next time 🍾🥂

ATTENTION: We humbly ask you for help in fundraising for our team this year! With some serious funding cuts we now are in a position where we may have to cut our C team (1/3 of our entire team). This team is full of talented, amazing and stoked Gauchos and we want to allow as many of them as possible to get a chance at competing. Thank you all for coming out to tryouts today!
It was great meeting everyone and we appreciate all who made it out.

Tryouts were a success. We were able to make a very strong team this year with all the talent in the water today. Emails have already been sent out with information if you have made the team. If you have not already received a confirmation email from us, thank you for coming out today and we highly encourage trying out again next year.

But, good news! The UCSB Surf Team is trying to get more involved with our Isla Vistian community this year, and by coming to tryouts and being on our email list we still plan on communicating with everyone about team parties, team trips, team comps and more!

Hope everyone was able to snag some south swell rolling in today after this morning's tryouts! Once again thank you everyone for coming out!
