Sensei John Morgart Jr. had the honor of meeting one of his martial arts inspirations, Jet Li, at Bookends for his book Beyond Life and Death: The Way of True Freedom.

Jet Li’s films including Meltdown, Contract Killer, The One, Cradle 2 the Grave, Romeo Must Die, Kiss of the Dragon, Fearless, Hero, and Unleashed, helped inspire a lifelong passion for martial arts.

That inspiration became part of the journey that led to Wei Son Do Martial Arts: a practical system built for real-world awareness, confidence, discipline, and pressure-tested self-defense.

A line from Meltdown has always stood out: “No risk, no reward.” In martial arts, growth comes from stepping forward, staying disciplined, and continuing to evolve.

Thank you, Jet Li, for the inspiration and for reminding us that martial arts is more than fighting, it is humility, purpose, discipline, and a way of life.
