Declined the glucose test durning pregnancy.
If you have gestational diabetes, you’ll most definitely catch it by checking your OWN blood sugar at home with your regular meals.
Here’s a simplified version of what you need to know if you choose to wear a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) instead 👇🏼
WHAT DATA YOU’RE LOOKING FOR:
Whether your blood sugar is consistently over range for fasting and 1-hour post meal.
🎯 Pregnancy Target Ranges (what most OBs use)
* Fasting: ≤ 95 mg/dL
* 1-hour post meal: ≤ 140 mg/dL
* 2-hour post meal: ≤ 120 mg/dL (if using 2-hour instead)
🚨 If you’re pregnant and considering a CGM:
> Plan ahead. Insurance often won’t cover it, so you may need to order one out of pocket. Make sure it’s ordered and arriving any time between your 24–28 week window.
> If a CGM isn’t an option, a standard glucose meter works fine (MUCH cheaper, or borrow one from a family member!). You will just need to prick yourself but here’s a simple way to track, in a 2 week window:
* Fasting: Collect ~8 readings
* Post-meal: Collect ~10–12 readings total, mix it up between breakfast, lunch, and dinner (1-hour after FIRST bite)
This is enough data to see your patterns without overdoing finger sticks. Just track your regular meals, don’t intentionally eat “low carb” to pass your readings. We want to collect real data and trends.
