Coach Hoover Niece set the standard for what Estill County Football is built on: toughness, discipline, and accountability.
His impact goes far beyond wins. He helped shape generations of young men and laid a foundation that still lives on in our program today.
We are grateful for the legacy he left and the example he set. Prayers for his family.
We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Estill County Head Football Coach Hoover Niece.
Coach Niece led the Engineers during the 1973–84 and 1987–98 seasons, finishing his career with 123 wins, one of the most impactful tenures in our program’s history.
Known for his toughness and high expectations, Coach Niece built teams that reflected his identity-hard-nosed, disciplined, and relentless. His defenses were a hallmark of his teams, and his influence helped shape generations of Estill County football players.
More importantly, Coach Niece was a father figure to so many. He poured into young men beyond the game, leaving a lasting impact on their lives that reached far beyond Friday nights.
He is survived by his wonderful wife, Sharon, who was such a integral part of our football program as well. As well their three sons, Jeremy, Andar, and Stanley, who each carried on his legacy as exceptional players for the Engineers.
Coach Niece will always be remembered as a cornerstone of Estill County Football. The young men of Estill County were so very fortunate to play for Coach Niece.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, former players and coaches, and all those whose lives he touched.
