PART 3: Your trainer is not the main character.

If you are paying for personal training, the focus should be on you.

Your goals.
Your injuries.
Your nutrition.
Your progress.
Your accountability.

Too many trainers spend half the session talking about themselves, scrolling their phone, or turning your workout into a casual conversation.

A great trainer listens, coaches, corrects, programs, and holds you accountable.

You are not paying for entertainment.
You are paying for results.

The question is simple:

Are you getting coached, or are you just getting company?

Part 2:

Yes, it’s fun hearing your trainer’s dating stories.

For the first five minutes.

Maybe even ten.

But at some point, you realize something.

You’re paying for that hour.

And every minute spent talking about their latest breakup, dating app disaster, or relationship drama is a minute you’re not getting coached.

Your trainer is not there to use you as a therapist.

They’re there to watch your form.

Adjust your program.

Push your intensity.

Track your progress.

And help you get results.

I’ve heard clients tell me they know everything about their trainer’s personal life but still don’t know how to squat correctly.

That’s a problem.

A great trainer listens more than they talk.

They pay attention to you.

Your goals.

Your injuries.

Your limitations.

Your progress.

The workout hour should be focused on making you better, not helping your trainer process their personal life.

Friendly is great.

Building relationships is important.

But the session should always be about the client.

Not the coach.

Your hour is not the time to hear about their dating life, relationship drama, weekend plans, or personal problems.

You’re paying for coaching, accountability, expertise, and results.

Every minute spent talking about your trainer’s personal life is a minute taken away from your workout, your progress, and your goals.

A good coach keeps the focus where it belongs: on you.

Your movement quality.
Your training.
Your nutrition.
Your habits.
Your results.

The best trainers build relationships with their clients, but they never make the session about themselves.

If you’re investing in coaching, make sure you’re getting coaching, not conversation.

Oprah is ignorant. She is not a victim. She is a self made billionaire. And she is a self made person who has lost weight, gained weight, rinse and repeat.

There is no “single” obesity gene. Obesity is polygenic.

That’s not an opinion. That’s biology.

There are genetic differences that can influence appetite, food preferences, hunger signals, and how efficiently someone stores energy. That part is real and well documented.

What does not exist is a gene that causes body fat to increase independently of behavior.

Genes do not override physics.
Genes do not cancel calories.
Genes do not lift weights for you.
Genes do not decide your daily habits.

Obesity rates did not explode because human DNA suddenly changed in the last 50 years. Human genetics do not evolve that fast.

What changed was the environment.
Food availability.
Portion sizes.
Ultra processed calories.
Sedentary lifestyles.
Stress.
Sleep.
Movement.

Genetics may load the gun.
Lifestyle pulls the trigger.

And that matters, because blaming a nonexistent obesity gene removes responsibility and removes agency.

If fat gain were purely genetic, strength training would not work.
