Week 2 of National Safety Month is all about making our roads safer, and it starts with education. Lake Wylie High School in York, SC, opens its doors for the very first time this August—and it's already putting an emphasis on student safety. Lake Wylie is partnering with SCNSC to make Alive at 25 part of students' requirements to get a parking pass, ensuring that they'll arrive on campus equipped to make smart decisions behind the wheel.

As we kick off summer, we're mindful that for teen drivers, the season is statistically the 100 Deadliest Days. SCNSC Traffic Safety Director Melissa Reck spoke to Spectrum News about why this time of year is so dangerous, and steps we can all take to make the roads safer:

The "100 Deadliest Days" refers to the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day, a time historically marked by increased fatal traffic crashes.

It's First Aid CPR/AED Awareness Week, and proper training literally saves lives. Employees at West Fraser, a mill in Joanna, SC, learned this when one of their own experienced a frightening cardiac event. Fortunately his quick-thinking coworkers put their training into action and used both CPR and an AED to revive him while they waited for first responders to arrive. Watch their story on our website, and then schedule a training class:

Our team had a wonderful time connecting with safety professionals from across the country at the NSC Safety Summit! This inaugural event combined the Future of EHS, HOP Summit and the NSC Spring Safety Conference & Expo under one roof. It was a great opportunity to learn about emerging trends, innovative products, and the future of safety.

We especially appreciated the opportunity to spend time with our friends at the Chesapeake Region Safety Council in their hometown and hearing Dave Madaras’ powerful take on 'Safety as a Team Sport.' Thanks for bringing the charm to Charm City!

Looking ahead, we're thrilled that the NSC Safety Summit is heading to Atlanta in spring 2027! We can’t wait to welcome safety professionals to the Southeast and showcase the energy, collaboration, and hospitality our region has to offer. We hope to see many of our members and partners there! Registration details will be available later this fall.
