Yesterday evening, at an Ipswich, SD high school boy's basketball game, Marv Seyer was awarded the 2024 Ipswich South Dakota Betterment Award. He was recognized partially for authoring several sports history books including his most recent book which chronicles the amazing accomplishments of Ipswich High School sports teams throughout the past 24 years (2020-2024.) In addition, the book recognizes exceptional achievements of Ipswich sports teams from the 1980's and 1990's. Finally, the book includes a section that features the achievements of Ipswich High School coaches. If you are interested in purchasing this book, please contact Marv Seyer. If you need contact information, please message me. Dad is in the center of this photo. My brothers Thomas and Terry flank Dad on either side. Thank you, Brandi Schlosser, for sharing your photos and videos!

I've been paging through dad's book and noticed this entry from 2013-14. Dad's statement about Cassius Pond reminded me that my dad was not a fan of jr. high students participating in high school athletics. He felt that competing in high school sports while in jr. high caused some athletes to burnout and choose not to complete as juniors and seniors. Dad was also a proponent of athletes competing in several sports rather than 'specializing' in one sport. For my dad, Cassius represents the 'ideal' high school athlete.

There was another Maci who was an outstanding track and field athlete for Ipswich, Maci Gauer. Dad admired not only her achievements but also her tenacity.

Dad mentions that Maci is in second place for most medals earned in State Track Meets. Maci earned 13 medals, two of which are 1st place medals. Shelly Gisi holds first place with 15 State track meet medals. Does anyone know what years Shelly competed?

Here is ? Heinz. She was MVP at State track meet 2015. Anyone know who she calls mom and dad?

I think the very best thing about my dad's Ipswich Sports History Book is the names! There are so many names! And, though I haven't lived in Ipswich since the late 1980's, I still recognize lots of the names. They are family names that have emerged in Ipswich High School sports history over and over again as the years pass. For example, I went to high school with Carol Clemen and Noel Pond. Both were athletes. Their children followed suit. What fun I had reading about their children's sports successes. And there are many more "Ipswich" names; Lacher, Geditz, Hammrich, Williams, Markovetz, Crissman, Heinz, Gauer, Engler, Pfaff, Gillick, Dutenhoffer, Simon, Hoffman, Peterson, and so many more! Message me if you would like to get in touch with my dad to order a copy of his book.

Happy New Year! Over the holidays I took a deep dive into my dad's (Marv Seyer) newest Ipswich sports history book, IHS Through The Years-The Prosperous Years 2000-2024. The book is much more comprehensive than I expected! It starts with Fall 1999 sports and ends with Spring 2024 sports. It includes a section that highlights the successful coaches in IHS history. It also includes a section highlighting outstanding teams throughout the 1980's and 1990's. The book ends with a recap of all IHS sports records updated through Spring 2024. Dad told me the other day that he has 14 books left. Better contact him if you would like to purchase one. They are $25 if you can pick up in Ipswich or $31 if you need the book shipped (It's a thick book!) If you need my dad's contact information, please message me.
