Could you imagine biking 2,000 miles across 6 states? A friend shared an article from Brett Twelmeyer of the The N'West Iowa REVIEW where a charity cycle stopped by our very own Lil Chubs-Inwood, Iowa and visited with their manager Tyler Ballinger.

🌟 Inwood Business Spotlight: Cooperative Farmers Elevator (CFE) 🌟

For generations, the local elevator has been an important part of Inwood’s agricultural community, serving area farmers and helping support the backbone of northwest Iowa agriculture.

Today, Cooperative Farmers Elevator (CFE) continues that tradition as a progressive farmer-owned cooperative serving communities across northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and southeast South Dakota. The current CFE organization was formed in 2015 through the merger of several long-standing cooperatives, with roots tracing back to 1899.

The Inwood location has seen many changes over the decades while continuing to evolve and modernize. The facility includes grain storage, feed production equipment, loadout systems, and milling operations that help serve local livestock producers and grain customers every day.

Some additions and upgrades at the Inwood location include:
🌽 New roller mill and cracker installed in recent years
🚜 Dryer, pit, loadout, and back leg upgrades completed in 2010
🐖 Protein pellet storage added about four years ago

While newer equipment has been added over the years, parts of the original facility still remain in use today — a reminder of the elevator’s long history in the community. Some manuals found onsite date back to 1955.

CFE is also fortunate to have dedicated employees who have served the Inwood location for many years:
👏 Chad Vangeest has worked at the elevator for 20 years
👏 Linda Meyer has served as office assistant for 31 years
👏 Chris Huether joined the Inwood location in September 2016 and became Location Manager in 2021

Through changing times, advancing technology, and generations of local farmers, the elevator continues to play an important role in supporting agriculture and the Inwood community.

Thank you to Cooperative Farmers Elevator and its employees for their continued dedication to local agriculture and rural communities! 💙🌾

Faces of Inwood: Meet Sue and Damon Bahnson!

We live on a farm just North of Inwood. We were married in 1972 and have lived in Inwood ever since. This is where we have raised our family. In fact Damon says he was born in the tv room, not because it is his favorite room, it is because he actually was born there! Damon still farms and feeds cattle. This along with following and attending all of his grandchildren’s West Lyon Sporting events keeps him happy. According to history, the Bahnson families have been part of Inwood for 153 years, originally homesteading here on the first Bahnson farm further North of here.

This writer, Susan Wiebersick Bahnson is from Montrose, South Dakota. I taught Third Grade in Canton, S D for several years. I loved every one of my students and teaching. I still substitute at West Lyon and love that, too. I also taught for one year in TK at West Lyon and one year at St Mary’s Catholic School in Larchwood, IA.

We have 5 children and 14 grandchildren. Our first daughter, April, was born in April and passed away in September of that same year, 1975. Our son, Seth was born the next year. He farms with Damon and lives near us. in the country with his wife, Christy and their four children. Christy teaches at West Lyon. Our daughter, Laura, owns and operates “Laura Marie’s Photography and Design. Her business is located in Inwood. Laura Kramer and Koury and their four children live in Inwood. Koury teaches at West Lyon. Our daughter, Chelsea and her husband, Luke also have four children. They live on Sunny Side Farm North of Inwood. Chelsea teaches at West Lyon. Her husband works in business near Inwood. Lastly, our daughter, Ashlee and her husband, Will, own and operate Calico Skies which also has an Inwood address by the Big Sioux River. Home to beautiful sunsets, vines and wines, pizzas, and wings. Also, free music is played here every Sunday. Ashlee, Will and their two children live in Inwood. This makes a total of twenty-five of us all calling Inwood HOME. Now that is 25 reasons we love Inwood!

To find what else we love about Inwood, we will start on Main Street on the North. Our first person we love here is Carol. She keeps the kids of Inwood safe no matter what the weather. The School buses come and go from here, just outside of City Hall. The Inwood Swimming Pool is just down the street. Carol also makes sure everything is running smoothly there too. Thanks, Carol.

When you are in need of a stamp or to return a package in the U.S. POST OFFICE is right here on Main Street. When you walk in, you may be greeted by Shawna or another happy person who will share a smile with you. We love the people of the Post Office. Hats off to you all. Actually one time I was visiting with some people at the post office and I shared with them that I had just lost my hat recently. A few days later I received a package in the mail box with a new warm hat inside of it. All that was missing was the return address. And I love my new hat. Thank you!

Whether you are shopping for a new chair, or just a treasure from the past, Inwood has three places on Main street to explore with another just a bit to the East at the corner where HWY 182 and 18 meet. Talk to Bev or Marlo. It’s always a fun time there. We also love the new coffee shop,Rustic Oaks, in town. If you are wanting sips of deliciousness in a cup, you will find it here. You could also spy a great new hat here as I did. We love the owners and all those who are employed there.

Across the street to the east is our mechanic, Al. If your car’s engine starts to make a funny noise, Al can diagnose what ails your car, fix the problem and get you back on the road again.

For help with the bigger equipment, go a bit to the West of Main Street. Bill can get you almost any part you need. He owns and operates H and H Repair. Damon has had Bill right there in Inwood to help him most of his farming career get back in the field.

Now if you have pets as all of our families do, stop and talk to Bonnie at the hatchery. She will give you one of her friendly smiles and talk to you about what you might be in need of for your cat, dog, chickens, calf or even sheep. She will make sure to help you with delivery of product to your car of animal feed or salt for your sheep. We do have interesting pets.

One of the best places to find just what you need is at Todd’s True Value like that perfectly matched and mixed gallon of paint along with the tools you need to finish the job.

Just to mention a few more would be two veterinary shops here. One will even keep your pets overnight.

There is a new Fire Department building now that all are proud of. More than that, we are thankful for our volunteer firemen. Over the years they have helped this farmer out many times. Thank you all so very much. We are blessed to have you.

We have a Bank in town where you can cash your check and meet your friends at either of the two establishments on Main Street for dinner and a nice evening out.

Let’s celebrate the amazing people who make our city so special!

We're proud to share that Inwood has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Community Character Award by The Robert D & Billie Ray Center-Drake University!

This award recognizes communities that exemplify the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship.

For a small town of less than 1,000 people, this recognition means a lot - it reflects who we are. We're a community that shows up for one another!

This award belongs to all of us - every resident, volunteer, business owner, community organization, employee, and elected official who chooses to call Inwood home.

Thank you to the Robert D and Billie Ray Center for this incredible honor!
