The Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Run was started in 1980 as part of the Icebox Days winter festival. This famous 10k run, which takes place in the middle of January, is a fun yet serious race. On a certified course 200-300 runners challenge themselves and the weather. January is typically the coldest month of the year in International Falls and what better way to defy Mother Nature! ver been cancelled due to cold temperatures; however, in 1982 it was shortened to a 3 mile race due to a 72 below zero wind-chill factor. In 2003 the Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Race took on new runners by adding a 5k run to the event. This famous race has been the featured in Runner’s World Magazine twice, on Fox News, and The Weather Channel to name a few. At the 29th Annual run, Travel Channel filmed footage of Icebox Days and the FYGBR for their Extreme Winter Festivals segment. Runners from Wisconsin, New Mexico, Atlanta, New York, South Carolina, Ontario, Manitoba, Minnesota, and the Dakotas have come to take the challenge.
