2026 Bow South Expedition, Kayaking The Lower Colorado River

2026 Bow South Expedition, Kayaking The Lower Colorado River We have 2 to 4 days trips with a variety of activities to choose from for you and your friends, family, or business retreat.

First established in 2014, Bow South Expedition is a charity paddle down almost the entire lower Colorado River, from South Cove on the eastern point of Lake Mead to the Gulf of California in Mexico. Bow South Expeditions offers multi-day guided kayak tours of the lower Colorado River through Imperial National Wildlife Refuge and Picacho State Recreation Area. The lower Colorado River through Imperial National Wildlife Refuge and Picacho State Recreation Area is the longest remaining natural stretch of this section of the river. In this area you can see what the Colorado River looked like before the construction of the various dams that changed the ecology. Old mines, ghost towns, abandoned steamship stops, and almost forgotten backwater lakes dot this area and are ripe for exploration. Wildlife that can be found include desert bighorn sheep, coyotes, beaver, bobcats, wild burros, osprey, owls, hawks, and eagles. Our multi-day trips we leave from Walters Camp, CA, and we paddle 14 miles into Imperial NWR and down to one of the boat-in camps in Picacho SRA. While there, we'll explore that many reed passages, old mines, ghost towns, and backwater lakes that this area is famous for. We might also spot some of the wildlife along the river. On the last day of our trip we'll paddle the remaining 12 to 15 miles down to the end of our adventure at Fishers Landing, AZ. Life has changed a bit the last few years, but the one constant that will never change is the allure of dipping a paddle and exploring the Colorado River.
With that, I'm happy to announce the 2026 Bow South Expedition.
More announcements, Q & A sessions, and updates will be posted as we get closer to launch day on December 19.
