The State Fair is over! Do you know what that means?! The rink will be back in full force with plenty of skating and hockey! We will be posting the rebuilding of the rink later this week as it happens! In the meantime, we have more history of the Coliseum and some hockey history.

In 1990, the Indianapolis Ice brought home the IHL Turner Cup after a thrilling playoff run inside the Pepsi Coliseum against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Fun fact....did you know that when the players went to celebrate and went bar hopping afterwards, they lost trophy? Per upi.com, A player responsible for the trophy left the bar to go to his car, and when he came back it was gone! The trophy was "mostly" recovered, but police said team members waited to report the missing trophy because they thought it was a practical joke :)

More history! On September 3, 1964, Beatlemania hit Indianapolis! The Fab Four played two legendary shows. The afternooon show right inside the Coliseum, and evening show at the Grandstands. Their only concert appearance ever in the state of Indiana. Ticket price back then? Just $3.00!

Such a rich history. Humbled to be a small part of it.

RIP Dolly ❤️

In 1982, Dolly took the stage at the Indiana State Fair, bringing her unmistakable voice, warmth and sparkle to Hoosiers. We’re grateful to have this moment preserved in our Fair’s history and to have been one small stop in an extraordinary career.

Thank you for the music, the memories and a legacy that will live on for generations. ❤️

The State Fair has wrapped up, but we are still telling the history of the coliseum! The first pro hockey team to call the Coliseum home was the AHL’s Indianapolis Capitalswhich was an affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. They brought Calder Cup titles to Indy in 1942 and 1950!
