Indianapolis Martial Arts Institute

Indianapolis Martial Arts Institute Master Jason Michael Thomas began at the University of Notre Dame, where he learned a martial arts system consisting of Japanese Jujitsu and Korean Karate.

He taught first at The University of Notre Dame, then at IU Bloomington, and since 1998 in Indianapolis at a number of locations, including Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He has produced several black belts. Founded by Master Thomas' teacher, Robert J. Cooper, the International Martial Institute offers a combination of martial arts integrating Japanese Jujitsu from the well-known Grand Master Flore

ndo Visitacion, Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do mastered by Duk Sung Son, and Capoeira Angola. The system is firmly based in the discipline of self-defense. Students will grow in strength, physical condition and well-being, discipline, character, and develop a detailed knowledge of how to defend oneself in the most efficient ways. This is not a sport, but safety and fun are also extremely high on the priority list. Punching, kicking, blocking, sparring, falling, throwing, rolling, and flying safely through the air are all skills that this school imparts. Defenses against single and multiple attackers are taught, as well as defenses against attackers with weapons such as knives, sticks, and guns. Most importantly, however, Master Thomas teaches the awareness of avoiding these dangerous situations and the self-confidence and self-control to deal with them if necessary. Indy MAI practices in downtown Indianapolis at Broadway Methodist on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 pm. Use the door on the northeast corner of the building. It is easiest to park on Fairfield near that door, but you can also use the lot on the south side of the church.

Been teaching these three for years. Very proud of their progress — these young men are SUCH great students, full of respect and kindness, but strong and ready to rise to a challenge if necessary. Self-defense is a personal journey to perfection of character, strength in mind and body, and is useful all the time, not just when your life depends on it. Yesterday was the first time I allowed them to throw each other in this dangerous technique. They are purple belts getting ready for their brown belt test — next stop... BLACK BELTS.
Sign up for classes this year - I teach four nights a week, Monday-Thursday 6-8 PM - Tae Kwon Do - Japanese Jujitsu - Capoeira Angola. Discipline is freedom. 😊
