**POST-WAR RECOVERY — WEEK 5 | LIVING WITH THE SCARS: Joseph — From Trauma to Purpose**

**POST-WAR RECOVERY — WEEK 5**

**LIVING WITH THE SCARS**

**Joseph: From Trauma to Purpose**
**Genesis 50:20**

You survived the battle. You made it through the loss. You kept moving.

But what do you do when **the wound has healed—and the scar remains?**

This week, **Pastor A. Thomas Hill** takes us into the life of **Joseph**, a man who knew betrayal, rejection, false accusation, imprisonment, and years of waiting—yet discovered that none of it could cancel what God had spoken over his life.

Joseph's story reminds us:

**The presence of a scar does not mean the absence of healing.**

The wound says, *“Something happened to me.”*
The scar says, **“Something happened to me—and I survived it.”**

This week's journey:

**ACKNOWLEDGE** — The scar proves something happened.
**REFUSE** — Don't let the wound become your identity.
**RECOGNIZE** — God was working even when you couldn't see Him.
**REDEEM** — Let God turn your pain into purpose.

Joseph eventually looked at the very people connected to his trauma and declared:

**“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good…” — Genesis 50:20 (NKJV)**

Your scar has a history—but **your scar does not have to define your future.**

**What happened to you did not cancel what God spoke over you.**

**Don't let somebody else's sin write your character.**

**Don't put a period where God only put a comma.**

**God can transform the place of your greatest pain into a platform for your greatest purpose.**

And by the end of the journey, you may discover:

**The scar didn't change. The story attached to it did.**

# # # *Joseph: From Trauma to Purpose*

You survived the battle.
The wound closed.
Life moved forward.

**But the scar is still there.**

This week on **Wake Up With The Word**, we walk with **Joseph** through betrayal, the pit, slavery, false accusation, prison, delay—and ultimately purpose.

Joseph's story teaches us that **healing doesn't require erasing what happened.** God can change the meaning attached to the scar.

Our Week 5 journey:

**ACKNOWLEDGE** — The scar proves something happened.
**REFUSE** — Don't let the wound become your identity.
**RECOGNIZE** — God was working even when you couldn't see Him.
**REDEEM** — Let God turn your pain into purpose.

🔥 **The presence of a scar does not mean the absence of healing.**

🔥 **Don't let somebody else's sin write your character.**

🔥 **God's silence does not mean God's absence.**

🔥 **Being forgotten by people does not mean you've been forgotten by God.**

🔥 **Delay doesn't mean denial.**

🔥 **What happened to you did not cancel what God spoke over you.**

And Joseph ultimately discovered:

**“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good...” — Genesis 50:20 (NKJV)**

The scar may remain—but God can change the story attached to it.

POST-WAR RECOVERY — WEEK 5
LIVING WITH THE SCARS

Joseph: From Trauma to Purpose | Genesis 37–50

Some wounds heal—but leave a scar.

Joseph knew what it was to be betrayed by family, thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, falsely accused, imprisoned, and forgotten. Yet what happened to Joseph never became the final definition of Joseph.

His journey teaches us a powerful truth:

THE PRESENCE OF A SCAR DOES NOT MEAN THE ABSENCE OF HEALING.

Recovery doesn't mean pretending the wound never happened. You can remember what happened without allowing the memory to control your future. You can acknowledge the betrayal without becoming bitter. You can carry the scar without allowing the scar to carry you.

Joseph's journey takes us through four movements:

ACKNOWLEDGE → REFUSE → RECOGNIZE → REDEEM

ACKNOWLEDGE what happened.
REFUSE to let the wound become your identity.
RECOGNIZE that God was working even when you couldn't see Him.
REDEEM the pain by allowing God to transform it into purpose.

Years later, Joseph could stand before the very brothers who betrayed him and declare:

“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good…” — Genesis 50:20 NKJV

Joseph didn't call the evil good. He discovered that evil didn't get the final word—God did.

🔥 The pit wasn't the end.
🔥 The prison wasn't the end.
🔥 The betrayal wasn't the end.
🔥 And your scar doesn't have to be the end either.

GOD CAN TRANSFORM THE PLACE OF YOUR GREATEST PAIN INTO A PLATFORM FOR YOUR GREATEST PURPOSE.
