So you won’t find me at Anderson Speedway tonight… I just walked off the football field instead. 🏈

Earlier this year I joined my high school’s Unified Flag Football team. I figured I’d play a couple games, have fun, meet some new people, and see what happened. I definitely didn’t expect all of this!

For those who don’t know, Unified Sports brings students with and without intellectual disabilities together to play on the same team. It’s about inclusion, friendship, and making sure everyone gets the chance to be part of something bigger. I got to be the QB for this team, and it’s been pretty cool getting to be part of something that means so much more than just football.

We made school history by winning our first-ever IHSAA Unified Flag Football Sectional Championship!

Today we played in regionals. We were down by 22 at halftime and ended up losing by 3. Definitely not how we wanted it to end, and my heart is pretty heavy right now.

At the beginning of the season, I never would’ve thought we’d make it this far. Winning sectionals and getting to compete at regionals is something I’ll always be proud of.

The outcome today wasn’t what we wanted, but the friendships and core memories we made along the way are worth so much more than a final score.

So instead of racing tonight, I’m walking away from the football field proud of this team and everything we accomplished together.

PERSEVERANCE!!

That’s the one word I’d use to describe my sophomore season in the United States Speed Association Kenyon Midget Series.

I raced 5 different cars this year and still finished 5th in points out of 29 drivers. It definitely wasn’t the easiest season, but I never gave up and just kept pushing.

We ended the year on a high note. In my last race, I moved up 8 spots to finish 7th in the feature and earned the Hard Charger Award! 🏁

After last weekend’s race got canceled, we’re ready to get back after it!

Tomorrow night we’re back at Anderson Speedway for the final Kenyon Midget race of the season. Excited to finish the season strong!

Evan Patton is back on track Thursday at Anderson Speedway, putting in test laps ahead of Saturday’s Mel & Don Kenyon Classic — a 75 lap feature that’s going to demand a lot out of both the car and the driver. Good prep day to dial things in before the green flag.

Meanwhile Wian Boshoff Racing heads to Road America starting tomorrow for the final weekend of USF2000 competition in 2027. Closing out a season at one of the most historic road courses in the country is about as good as it gets.

Two drivers, two very different challenges, one big week. Stay locked in.

Car #4 of the season 🫠

Kyle didn’t drive last night, so I got the chance to hop in his car while we wait on the motor for my other car. Kyle worked his butt off all night chasing the setup and giving me the best car possible.

About last night—Unless you witnessed it or lived it, this probably doesn’t even sound like something that could really happen. But it did. 😳🔥

Practice was great. The car was fast, everything felt good, and we went into qualifying feeling confident.

Then, while I was out qualifying, radio communications told me my car was on fire. I had no idea. Stopped on track and found out just how bad it was. The engine was done, and honestly, I thought our night at Berlin was over.

That feeling is hard to explain. You put so much time, work, and money into getting to the track, and then just like that, it can all be gone.

And then what happened next doesn’t even seem real.

My friend Jeff, who I also race against, absolutely LOVES Berlin. It’s his favorite track.

A little backstory… Last year, one of the guys who drives for him, Kyle, was at Berlin and laid down the fastest track-record lap. Then his engine blew, and he was done for the night. Jeff ended up giving Kyle his car so he could keep competing instead of driving it himself.

Fast forward to last night.

Jeff Trailer Sales Hill had just put down a great qualifying lap at his favorite track. He knew as soon as he saw my dad that my car was done. Of course, he was like, “You’ve got to be kidding me. This is his track!”

But once again, Jeff stepped aside so I could have a chance to race.

He gave me a huge hug, told me not to worry, and then said, “Go drive my car, I love you bro.”

I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment.

To have someone trust me enough to hand me their car and give me another chance after what had just happened meant more than I can explain.

So I climbed in, strapped in, and went racing.

It definitely wasn’t the night we planned, but it became a night I’ll never forget. What could have ended with us loading up and going home turned into another opportunity to get back on the track and do what I love.

I’m incredibly thankful for Jeff & Britnegh Hill, Dave, Andy, Sarah, Brad, PFH Racing, our sponsors—The Bin Blaster, Dive Rescue International - Public Safety, Pitcher Perfect and everyone else who helped make it possible. And especially thankful for the people who believe in me when things don’t go according to plan.

I finished P5 in heat race and P8 in the feature.

Sometimes racing gives you the best nights. Sometimes it gives you the hardest ones. And sometimes, it gives you a story you’ll be telling forever.

Berlin definitely gave us one to remember!

Last dirt race of the season at Lincoln Park!

We qualified 4th, Started P2 in Heat 2 and finished 4th after some hard racing.

Started P8 in the feature, got spun mid-race due to some aggressive racing on my part. I had to restart at the tail with 6 laps left, I fought back to finish 7th.

Not the result we wanted but I recovered best I could with limited laps left. The car is fast and we’re taking it to Berlin, Michigan on Friday night!
