Awards: 2021 Magic Valley 2019 Magic Valley Speedway (MVS) Midgets Champion/2nd in Points; 2018 MVS Midgets 2nd in Points; 2018 RMR Midgets 4th in Points; 2017 RMR Midgets Champion/Rookie of the Year; 2016 RMR Jr. Chaz Groat was the primary driver until his untimely death on December 31, 2020 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. For only being 17, Chaz made a huge impact
on those around him. He loved making people laugh and was someone who would light up a room whenever he entered. He had a way of cheering people up, even during the most difficult times. Even in death, Chaz continued giving to others by choosing to be an organ donor. Our race team will continue racing midgets throughout the western U.S. to use the platform to spread the message of safe driving habits and organ donation. In 2021, as a tribute and in memory to our son, Devin Westover, whom Chaz considered to be a big brother, drove Chaz’s race car for the season, which was full of emotions and challenges as we honored and celebrated Chaz. In the end, Devin was crowned the 2021 Rocky Mountain Midgets Points Champion. In September, we held the 1st Annual Chaz Groat Memorial Race at the Concrete Jungle, Meridian Speedway in Meridian, Idaho. The two-day event celebrated and honored Chaz in the best way possible with fulfilling his dream of wanting a large field of cars. The Rocky Mountain Focus Midgets were joined by other Focus Midget clubs from around the country for a total of 23 midgets in the line-up. With a $15,000 prize fund, custom made trophies, and special awards, the midgets took to the track with some fierce competition throughout the entire weekend. We look forward to an even larger field of cars for the 2nd Annual Race September 23-24, 2022 in Meridian. To further Chaz’s legacy, the Chaz Groat Memorial Foundation was established as a meaningful way for us to help others in honor of our son and to preserve his name for years to come.
