A picture from the 2018 Boston Marathon because it’s Marathon Monday!!
A little over a year ago I started having some bilateral high hamstring pain. I just ignored it because I could still run without much pain at all. Last summer I went to a PT and she said it was a nerve thing. Deep down I knew it was not that and thinking high hamstring tendinopathy with all research I did. I was able to train for a 2022 fall marathon. I had pain with speed work, hills and long runs. But not enough to hold me back. This year it just continued to get worse. I stopped speed work/hills and was unable to run past 8 miles. I FINALLY went to a sports med doctor to get a diagnosis even though I knew what I had but wanted a professional to tell me. Dx: Chronic bilateral high hamstring teninopathy. I’m now on a mission to heal this long, bitch of an injury. PT exercises, strength training, running every other day and elliptical the other days per doctors orders. Tendons like to be loaded, as long as I keep the pain no more than 3/10. I was unable to run faster than 9:30 pace before it would flare up. This past Saturday I was able to run 13 miles and even picked up the pace to 8 min miles only experiencing pain 1/10 the whole run! This is going to be a long road to overcome this. I will be 44 next week and with the length of this injury I feel like my faster days are behind me.😏 The doctor said if if do all the work, I could prob run a fall marathon!
On a positive note….Congratulations to all everyone running the Boston Marathon!! Enjoy it!
