The City of Independence is looking for a local resident who would like to donate a spruce or pine tree to serve as our community Christmas tree for this year’s Annual Tree Lighting Event! ✨🎄

If you have a beautiful spruce or pine on your property that you’ve been considering removing, this could be the perfect opportunity to give it a second life — and bring holiday cheer to the entire community. ❤️

Please contact the City of Independence for more information about tree size, location, removal, and donation requirements. Please call the Civic Center at 216-524-3262.

It’s that time of the year to start installing deer guards on your young trees at home!🦌 Any tree under 6” in diameter should have a tree wrap installed to protect from deer rubbing and wounding/killing the tree. The Parks and Rec Department uses corrugated pipe. This can be found at local hardware stores. Keep your trees healthy and alive this Fall with this tree care tip!🌳

We would like to thank all of the Parks & Recreation staff that played a role in opening the Outdoor pool early today and operating both pools at full capacity. Many staff members came in on their day off, rushed from school to work, or did double duty with our cross-trained park staff. The Outdoor pool was one of the only pools opened today in the area/Cuyahoga County. Teamwork like this this is what makes Independence a premier place to live! ☀️🌊⛱️

We were able to get enough lifeguard staff to open the activity pool from 2-4pm with this extreme heat. The main pool will open at 4pm! We hope to see you there! 🤿🏊⛱️
