Pirates of Purgatory Boffer Unit This is the Home of the Pirates of Purgatory,the Boffer unit in Independence,Missouri.We abide by both Dagorhir and Belegarth rules,and act as if a family.

We are a group of people dedicated to playing and supporting the foam fighting sport of both Dagorhir and Belegarth. We do what is called battle gaming or sometimes called Live Action Gaming, which differs from the original "Larp" you will hear about a lot. We meet once a week on Sunday at Hill Park in Independence Mo at 3:00 pm to whenever we get tired! Battle gaming is a combat game using padded

mock weapons. The entire game is based on honor where each player calls themselves out of the game by acknowledging the strikes delivered by other players. The sport is rooted in the self acknowledgement of defeat. Battle gaming is not LARP; it is more akin to table top miniature wargaming. The battle games are short scenarios ranging from five minutes to four hours in duration at the end of which all players are regenerated to play again. Each game is played in isolation. The outcome from one game scenario does not impact the scenario of the next game. Players are invited to dress as and role-play a warrior in the battles. Unlike in LARP, these personas are never permanently killed (removed) from the games. ( wiki )

The padded weapon sometimes just called the "foam weapon" is the creation of the American battle gaming movement. Padded weapons typically have at least twice the padding found in traditional boffer weapons. They also tend to be lighter than traditional PVC boffers as they are almost always built on fiberglass or carbon fiber cores. All striking surfaces are covered with cloth to prevent the weapon from scratching uncovered skin. The combination of more padding, lighter weight, and cloth covering make these weapons ideal for the unrestrained fighting that is found in most American battle gaming groups (Amtgard, Belegarth Medieval Combat Society, Dagorhir, Darkon Wargaming Club, and High Fantasy Society). Hey all! beautiful day out but because of reasons for the group personally lives etc there won't be any practice today take the day spend time with your friends and family and let's reconvene next Sunday at Hill Park looking forward to seeing you all again!

Practice this last Sunday was so much fun, it lasted 2 hours over what we usually fight! we had 3 guests from Dominion of the Unconquered Sun join us and a bunch of new members too! Thanks so much to all that came out and we look forward to next Sunday for fun at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival!
