Imlay City Spartan Clay Target Team Shines with Heart and Determination at Fall Classic Trap Invitational
The Imlay City Spartan Clay Target Team attended the Fall Classic Trap Invitational at B&BS Gun Club today—and for such a young and growing team, they did not disappoint! While Imlay City placed seventh overall with a total team score of 372, their performance was a true display of spirit, sportsmanship, and steady progress. Competing with only six dedicated shooters—compared to other teams fielding 20 or more—the Spartans gave it their all and represented Imlay City with pride.
The day brought moments of triumph and learning alike—reminders that in competition, the journey and growth matter just as much as the score. Most importantly, every one of our shooters demonstrated great sportsmanship, teamwork, and optimism for the future as they continue to mature in this challenging and rewarding sport. Richmond captured the championship title, edging out reigning State Champions Armada. Memphis followed in third place, with Lakeshore, Almont, New Haven, and Imlay City rounding out the standings.
Team Highlights:
Sam Prescott led the Spartans as Top Gun, shooting an impressive 85—his best Invitational performance to date!
Jason Sefcovic posted a strong 80, contributing the team’s second-highest score.
Liam Ferguson and Tegan Fryer both scored 72, rounding out the third and fourth positions. Liam’s performance was especially noteworthy as a Novice Gun, coming just shy of the Novice Top Gun trophy (score of 75 won) with an excellent showing.
Lyle Parsch completed the team’s top five scores with determination and consistency.
A special shoutout goes to Jasmin Sefcovic, who stepped up to shoot with the Memphis squad due to trap line space limitations. Chosen for her calm focus and steady composure, Jasmin represented Imlay City beautifully while enjoying the rare opportunity to shoot alongside three other female athletes—a special highlight of her day!
Head Coach Todd Schoenherr expressed his pride in the team, emphasizing how much growth and character they’ve shown in high-pressure, head-to-head competition. Facing off against several former State Champion teams is no small task, and the Spartans met the challenge with grit and grace.
As the fall season comes to a close, the Imlay City Spartans are already looking ahead to spring—stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever. Coach Schoenherr welcomes new shooters to join the team in the upcoming season.
If you’re ready to challenge yourself, make lasting friendships, and be part of high school’s safest and most rewarding sport, keep an eye out for announcements after the first of the year.
Go Spartans—and see you on the line this spring!
