A quick story about the pitfalls of success…

It was May of 18’ & I was sitting on the rooftop of my office smoking ci******es.
⠀
Between inhales I watched SpaceX satellites launching into space out over the Pacific Ocean.
⠀
It was just past 10pm and I realized that I still hadn’t eaten dinner.
⠀
We had just crossed the $340k per month mark ($4 million annually)…
⠀
and yet here I was.
⠀
Hardly able to celebrate.
⠀
I had turned to ci******es months prior as a means to deal with my anxiety.
⠀
The paradox was all too potent & terrible.
⠀
It seemed as if the more I accomplished personally & the more we grew as a company…
⠀
the more unsatisfied & unhappy I became.
⠀
Every sale provided an immediate high…
⠀
followed shortly thereafter by an inevitable & unavoidable crash.
⠀
It was devastating to my spirit.
⠀
Nothing was ever enough.
⠀
Here’s the truth that you need to know about success.
⠀
While an innate part of the human spirit desires expansion…
⠀
A lot of 7-figure + entrepreneurs seek expansion because something is missing.
⠀
While consciously they may not be aware of this…
⠀
Their results tell you everything you need to know.
⠀
They reach the top yet are surprised when they are met by feelings of…
⠀
emptiness, loneliness, sadness, isolation, anxiety & overwhelm.
⠀
For a long time I pursued success out of an unconscious desire to be loved.
⠀
But what I didn’t realize…
⠀
was that nothing outside of you, will ever be able to fill a void that lives inside of you.

The answer your spirit is looking for and how you ultimately want to feel is not found at the next level of achievement.

20’ was a lonely year for a lot of coaches...
⠀
I literally joined a mastermind just so I could be around a thriving community of likeminded entrepreneurs.
⠀
I was craving connection, new experiences & travel.
⠀
More than anything I wanted to be challenged.
⠀
I knew I needed to be put into a new environment that would push me out of my comfort zone.

But here’s the thing about most retreats or business masterminds...

They’re either heavily focused on business or very little (if none) at all.

The first scenario?

What needs to happen for you to receive more?

“That they will see me as untrustworthy.” she responded.

“And what happens if they see you as untrustworthy?”

“What then?” I asked.

“Then they won’t want to be in relationship with me.” she replied.
⠀
And there it is.

The source.

As you can probably see her current perspective is being driven by a deeply seeded fear of abandonment that is ultimately manifesting itself in her struggle to present an offer or ask for the sale.
⠀
In order to fundamentally support her at a core level with increasing her sales we must reprogram this belief.
⠀
Otherwise, she will continue to struggle because the payoff of not upsetting people to ensure they continue to trust her is currently far greater than the payoff of serving them as a client and presenting an offer or closing the sale (making money).

What if I told you that it is impossible to be stuck?
⠀
In 17’ I was a corporate sales executive in the healthcare technology space.
⠀
It was anything but sexy.
⠀
But it allowed me to travel often, which I love.
⠀
In the latter half of that year my sales completely stalled.
⠀
While I continued to close sales I felt stuck.
⠀
Sales flatlined & growth stalled.
⠀
Meanwhile our expenses kept going up.
⠀
I think you know where this is going.
⠀
For a scaling company that needed to raise investment capital it was a death sentence.
⠀
It felt like no matter what I tried I just couldn’t move the needle forward.
⠀
One day after a prospective client I had been nurturing for 8 months told me that they decided to go with our competitor I went into a side office and broke down crying.
⠀
That night I sat on the roof of our corporate headquarters smoking a cigarette (because I was that stressed) and for the first time I openly wept about my break-up six months earlier.
⠀
I let go of months worth of pent up sadness, frustration & anger all at once.
⠀
After that night my sales (unsurprisingly) went up & in just a few short months I was promoted.
⠀
I was “stuck” because I was holding onto stagnant emotions that prevented me from showing up as my best self.
⠀
Point is - you can’t be stuck.
⠀
We are ever evolving and transforming beings.
⠀
Meaning we are either progressing or regressing.
⠀
There is no in-between.
⠀
Feeling stuck is simply an outcome of avoidance - avoiding making a hard decision, having a difficult vulnerable conversation or healing from a painful breakup.
⠀
Just to name a few.
⠀
Moral of the story?
⠀
If you’re feeling stuck it’s a clear cut sign that you’re avoiding something.
⠀
All of the growth and breakthrough you’re looking for is found on the other side of the things you’re avoiding.
⠀

As much as I would like to say that I’m excited about the results of the presidential election I honestly can’t say that I am.
⠀
I’m cautiously optimistic at best.
⠀
The amount of profound problems that this year has brought sharply into focus has been beyond startling.
⠀
Regardless of what political party is in power.
⠀
If you think a simple transfer of political power is going to fix the immense social, political, financial & racial deficiencies this country currently faces you haven’t been paying attention.
⠀
This is coming from someone who supports that transfer of political power.
⠀
It’s easy to forget that Democrats under Obama failed to privatize the banks in the wake of the 08’ Great Recession & instead shouldered future generations of tax payers with unimaginable debt.
⠀
It’s easy to forget that the median income has progressively gone down since 07’ further increasing income & wealth inequality in the U.S. (especially amongst minorities) - primarily under the watchful eye of the Democrats.
⠀
It’s easy to point out that a seemingly morally bankrupt president perpetuates our countries existence as an apartheid nation which subjugates portions of its population (primarily minorities) to benefit & enrich others (primarily white people).
⠀
It’s easy to point out that there is a seemingly very calculated effort of those formerly in power to further a legal, political, economic & system built on discrimination.
⠀
And you’d be right.
⠀
But it isn’t that simple.
⠀
I wish it were.
⠀
The system as it stands keeps us divided.
⠀
Not one political party.
⠀
And certainly not one man.
⠀
Of course there are policies and deeply rooted systems of segregation in this country which absolutely must be undone.
⠀
But it’s hard for me to not feel as if we just swapped out one evil for another.
⠀
A wolf in sheep’s clothing if I may.
⠀
How much will this country actually improve?
⠀
That’s tbd.
⠀
But there’s anything we can count on it’s this - that our government serves not to protect the interests of the people but to protect the interests of a relative autonomous group of billionaires & corporations.
⠀
Either way I will commit myself to love.
⠀
I pray the same for you.

Do you make enough time to enjoy yourself?

One thing I’m learning as I grow my online coaching business and as I grow personally...
⠀..is just how important it is to make time for myself to enjoy my results.
⠀
Otherwise, I will eventually come to resent the very thing that enables me to have the life that I’ve worked so hard to create.

Which took us to Beloit, Wisconsin. ⁣⁣⁣⁣

And because I wanted a Spotted Cow (a beer only sold in WI).⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

We went to a local bar to cap off the day...⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

the bartender, clearly intoxicated, pulls out a gun to show his friends & in doing so, points the gun at us.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

I calmly, urgently, say something...⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

He drunkenly explains that it isn’t loaded (it is) & that he’s here to “protect us.”⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

I (calmly) explain how he just put us in harms way.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
He becomes defensive & says that I have no right to tell him how to run his establishment...⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

it escalates.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
My adrenaline is boiling.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

My entire body is activated.⁣

I’m angry & frustrated.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

I remain calm.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Silent no more ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
I will be the first person to admit that I have been a closet activist in the past.
My white privilege allowed me to avoid and ultimately not acknowledge the very real suffering of black people and the black community.
And that’s not OK.
To my black brothers and sisters.
To my black family members.
To my black clients.
I’m sorry for being reactive and not proactive in the face of the ongoing injustice, inequality, & racism that you continue to experience.
I’m sorry for allowing my white privilege to get in the way of not only speaking up but acting out in the name of social justice, equality and inclusion.
What you can count on from me is to be active in speaking up and speaking out.
What you can count of from me is to take action against the systems of oppression that continue to needlessly claim the lives of black men and women all over the country and that poses a very real threat to your freedom + equal rights.
I realize that it’s ultimately on white people to fix this problem because we’re the ones with the power.
We control the system.
And that’s not OK.
The tidal waves of change are here.
